Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

POSITION CONCEPT: 
The Construction Supervisor is responsible for assisting in preparation of field installation subcontract packages; safely direction of contractors work using a ZERO accident philosophy; monitoring daily work activities to assure contractors are supporting the overall project schedule. Provides  leadership to Maintenance Planning/Scheduling Personnel, outage coordination, technical direction  and day to day oversite to contractors related to all rotating equipment, auxiliary support equipment/systems and for any Mechanical and Civil/Structural contracted work assigned projects.  Additionally the supervisor will review the project design to identify any potential changes and work with contract personal to review and approve any contract change notices.   The Supervisor will ensure the quality of all work performed while identifying construction critical items that may have potential of impacting the work schedule.  The supervisor will monitor the project for work rule compliance.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure quality of work performed and identify critical items that may impact the project work schedule. 
  • Review project design and identify any potential changes.  Review changes with contract personnel for approval of any change notices. 
  • Monitor all assigned projects for work rule compliance  and ensure that contractors’ work is done in a safe and cost effective manner. 
  • Assist in preparation of field installation contract packages.
  • Review contractor progress and critical path activities through regularly scheduled meetings. 
  • Assist with planning and establishing project schedules and following up on actual performance and productivity against estimates. 
  • Support Engineering & Project Management efforts to bid, evaluate, award and oversee gas turbine/generator and miscellaneous rotating equipment contracted scopes of work as well as any Mechanical and Civil/Structural contracted work. 
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to contractors and follow work progress on all assigned projects. 
  • Inspect ongoing work activities to confirm contractor performance to project plans, specifications and monitor/enforce compliance to all regulatory requirements.  
  • Perform any other duties or special assignments as assigned by the Manager. 


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma.  Construction management training is required
Preferred: Technical or Military Trade School relevant to the position,  Associate of Applied Science, College degree is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Construction Supervisor should have at least 10 years experience in supervising heavy industrial  gas turbine/generator  outage maintenance/ construction or construction management including 10 years of related or equivalent experience in gas turbines, generators, pumps, fans, HRSG’s, piping, valves, machining, welding,  mechanical and /or civil/structural in a power plant or industrial environment. 

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of four years with a Bachelor’s degree.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Knowledge of rotating equipment, construction safety/ codes/standards (OSHA,AWS,ASME,ASTM,etc.) Previous experience in writing contract scopes of work and working with contract . Must be able to plan and organize projects to support department goals.  Must possess strong leadership qualities and have team building skills including outage coordination, planning and scheduling experience. Technical knowledge of power plant rotating equipment, simple cycle and combine cycle power plant maintenance, mechanical and/or civil structural systems is required as well as contract administrative responsibilities. Previous experience with computerized work management systems. Ability to cross train skillset, learn project management, and plan, estimate, bid, award, schedule, and oversee large steam turbine/generator outages. 

Preferred: Experience in supervising contractors.  Previous experience as a journey millwright, turbine foreman, turbine superintendent, military or other technical trade school or a qualified turbine technical field engineer with experience on  GE gas turbines, generators and rotating equipment. Proficient use of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Primavera P6, Gant Charts, Adobe Acrobat, Strong verbal and written communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Handle multiple duties and responsibilities and be accountable for those actions.  Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed, nightshifts and weekends when required during planned, forced outages and as directed by management.  Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to inclement weather, cold,  heat, humidity, and high noise levels.  Must be able to travel to various power plant locations, (Bayside, Big Bend and Polk Power Station).  


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment for work assigned. Ability to ascend/descend  stairs, scaffolds & ladders; maintain balance when walking, standing, or crouching; wear a safety harness when required,  wear respirator at limited times, enter and work in confined spaces, and work at heights.
