POSITION CONCEPT
The overall objective of the Business Strategy Analyst position is to support Tampa Electric’s strategic planning and implementation, including the development and communication of corporate strategy, and connect strategic priorities to business operations and relevant regulatory and legislative policy considerations. The position works independently on assignments including research, analysis, reporting, policy insight, strategy development and communications. The position participates in cross-functional teams to address complex operational, commercial or strategic initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategy Research and Analysis: Participate in cross-functional strategic initiative teams or assigned business units. Research industry issues and trends, signposts and utility actions; analyze opportunities (e.g. financial, technical, organizational, risk analyses) and develop or support recommendations that inform Tampa Electric’s strategic plan, operational business plan and related roadmaps. (15%)
2. Corporate Strategy and Communications: Support the strategy planning and implementation life cycle, including external scan, internal analysis, strategy development, executive Board materials, and company level communication. (30%)
3. Energy Policy and Strategic Alignment: Analyze where policy support is required to advance Tampa Electric strategic priorities; coordinate issue analysis, white papers, position statements and policy insights related to federal, state and local regulatory or legislative activity. Establish relationships with internal stakeholders, federal, state and local agencies and organizations to communicate the company’s activities and position on energy policy concerns. (15%)
4. KPIs, Benchmarking and Reporting: Research, track, analyze and communicate on key performance indicators, stats and metrics for executive level review and action. Turn data to actionable insights by reporting and communicating it in ways to make it easy to understand. Compare TECO’s performance to other utilities and U.S. average to benchmark our performance and learn from others. Collect and maintain data sources for high integrity and accuracy levels in reporting for executives, Board and Emera which is used for Investor materials, Sustainability reports, etc. Collaborate with Emera Strategy team on operational reporting for consistency and alignment. (25%)
5. Department Operations and Budget Support: Coordinate meetings, logistics, travel, meals, supplies, subscriptions, expense processing, community service activities, and department budget development, forecasting and variance reporting, with accountability increasing by level. (15%)
SUPERVISION
No direct supervision but will be expected to assume a leadership role as requested. Indirect supervisory responsibilities over other employees and external consultants may be required on special projects.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Regular contact and coordination with team members in most functional areas of Tampa Electric, including Energy Supply, Electric Delivery, Customer Experience, Accounting, Procurement, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, External Affairs, and Emera and all affiliates
External: Interactions include supporting the company in external or community affairs, industry group activities (e.g. EEI) and other professional associations. Regular interaction with consultants and contractors.
LEVEL 1 - BUSINESS STRATEGY ANALYST
• Under close direction and supervision, the analyst supports and assists in the research, analysis and development of strategy and policy materials, performing industry research, technology evaluations, and economic analysis.
• Also, assist with the information collection and reporting processes related to corporate sustainability and disclosure.
• Performs routine work and applies judgement toward an agreed upon desired outcome and anticipates and proactively works on next steps ; receives close supervision on new aspects of non-routine assignments;
• performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced individual;
• may have some responsibility for drafting of content for written communications or presentations, and meeting preparation and facilitation, as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Minimum bachelor’s degree in either accounting, finance, economics, engineering, or business.
Related Experience
Required: Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in utility business operations or functional responsibilities (e.g. research, data analysis, financial analysis, strategy development) or related energy industry and/or regulatory policy issues with a basic understanding of utility operations and planning functions
Preferred: Graduate-level business degree from an accredited university is beneficial for future progression

LEVEL 2 - BUSINESS STRATEGY ANALYST SENIOR
• With high level direction and supervision, works independently to research, analyze, develop, document, and communicate strategy and policy insights.
• Leads specific work assignments and projects, including the information collection and reporting process related to corporate sustainability and disclosure.
• Proactively monitors, and reports on utility industry policy and regulatory trends.
• Proactively connects issues as they surface in various ways across the business operation, performs root cause analyses, gap assessments and develops recommendations.
• Applies facilitation skills for meetings including preparation of pre-reads, agenda, purpose and objectives, and communication of highlights and action items.
• Presents or facilitates panel discussions with internal TM audiences (i.e., TECO 101, Leadership summit).
• Plays a more significant role in communication (written and oral) of issue analysis or recommendations, training, orientation, assigning work, reviewing and supervising other employees; may receive assistance and/or guidance on unusual problems; may have limited authority for performing work on an individual basis with quasi-supervisory responsibility over other employees as may be assigned; prepare economic, financial and data analysis and reports on an independent basis.

• Manages the complete project life cycle of work efforts, from concept to final deliverable, independently leading execution of activities to completion.
• Leads multiple, diverse projects and work assignments.
• Proactively monitors key performance and financial indicators and significant industry and company events to assess alignment with strategy and business goals.
• Proactively monitors industry news and peer utilities and external events for continuous environmental scan, connecting signposts to Tampa Electric’s strategy and operations.
• Connects emerging issues across the business operation, performs root cause analyses, gap assessments and develops recommendations.
• Works directly with executives, affiliate strategy leaders, presents or facilitates panel discussions at internal meetings (i.e., TECO 101, Leadership Summit); may present at Board meetings.
• Independently plans and facilitates cross-functional meetings and collaborative sessions. Leads written and oral communication of analyses and recommendations and may assign and review work or provide project-based supervision. Independently prepares economic, financial and data analyses and reports, seeking guidance on unusual issues.
