Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

TITLE:    Smart Grid Network Analyst Progression
PERFORMANCE COACH:     Manager, Telecommunications Engineering

POSITION CONCEPT 
Responsible for planning/designing, implementing, and supporting new and existing Smart Grid Radio Frequency (RF) network infrastructure.  Responsible for planning and coordinating all Smart Grid RF network infrastructure installation and support work.  Responsible for monitoring the Smart Grid RF network for performance and reliability.  Responsible for supporting and facilitating the addition of Smart Grid applications onto the Smart Grid RF network (i.e. AMI, Distribution Automation, SCADA, etc.)

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   
1.    Plan, design, and implement Smart Grid RF network infrastructure based on project requirements, capacity plans, and system support, including maintenance of all required documentation: settings, configurations, equipment and site records.
2.    Plan, organize, and coordinate Smart Grid RF network equipment installation and support work with various Tampa Electric departments and contract crews. Kit, assemble, provision and configure equipment for installation. Assist with and validate job plans including job sequence and man-hour estimate; material and equipment requirements including dates; and coordination requirements.
3.    Detect and correct Smart Grid RF network performance and reliability issues by monitoring network using Network Management System.
4.    Update SmartGrid RF network equipment firmware and configurations as needed / required.
5.    Define specifications for, evaluate, and test new hardware and/or software for SmartGrid RF networks.
6.    Report to storm assignment and perform duties as defined in the Tampa Electric Storm Plan

 

SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision:    No supervisory responsibilities.  
Indirect Supervision:         Oversight responsibilities for linemen, contract linemen, Radio Electricians.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Typical business day hours consists of a 7 a.m. start time; Office environment is the normal working environment with field work required during upgrades and support activities; May require reporting and/or working after normal business hours and must be available for after-hours callouts as required for emergency problem resolution.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS 
Tasks require handling objects up to 50 pounds on a routine basis. Perform basic wiring, soldering, and connecting electronic/electrical equipment on a regular basis; Involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time and lifting networking equipment; Minimal exposure to physical risks such as operating dangerous equipment.


Level 1:    Smart Grid Network Analyst 

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY 


With supervision, works with the ability to support existing Smart Grid RF network infrastructure;   Supports the technologies of switching, routing, DNS/DHCP, RF networking hardware installation and maintenance.


1.    Support (40%): Monitors, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and remedies Smart Grid RF network problems and failures. Maintains all required documentation.
2.    Implement (40%): Installs and configures Smart Grid RF network hardware and software
3.    Plan/Coordinate (20%): Kit, assemble, and provision equipment. Coordinate work with departments and contractors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education  
Required:    Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:     Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent IT discipline (MIS) from an accredited college/university 

 

Licenses/Certifications
Required:    At least one associate level certification (i.e. Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Network +, Certified Wireless Network Administrator).

 

Experience 
Required:    Minimum of four years of related hands-on experience implementing and maintaining networks
Supervisory Experience 
None

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA):
Required:    Knowledge of most types of network infrastructure; High level of technical competency in the Smart Grid / Grid Modernization and network field; Basic switching, routing, DNS/DHCP, Smart Grid RF networking hardware installation and maintenance. 

Level 2:    Smart Grid Network Analyst Senior

 

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
Working under general oversight, the Senior Smart Grid Network Analyst has increased responsibilities consulting on small, medium and large-scale project RF network design and plans, working directly with vendor engineering teams to improve network performance and reliability, and managing network technologies including switching, routing, DNS/DHCP, RF networking hardware installation and maintenance.

1.    Support (20%): Monitors, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and remedies Smart Grid RF network problems and failures. Maintains all required documentation.
2.    Implement (30%): Installs and configures Smart Grid RF network hardware and software. Manages and updates RF network equipment firmware and configurations. Manages and updates AMI meter register and RF and PLC communications firmware by planning and coordinating updates with departments to minimize impacts to critical functions including meter reads and service disconnect and reconnects.
3.    Design/Plan (30%): Design, plan, and lead implementation of Smart Grid RF network infrastructure based on project performance and reliability requirements, capacity plans, and operations support. Design and build macro scripts to automate processes and as work arounds for known issues. Define equipment and software specifications.
4.    Lead/Consult (20%): Project leadership, consulting, or cross-train peers

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to previous levels:
Licenses/Certifications
Required:    At least one associate and one senior level certification (i.e. Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Network A+, Certified Wireless Network Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Professional).

 

Experience
Required:    Minimum of 2 years of Smart Grid Network Analyst experience, or minimum of 6 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Minimum of advanced knowledge of most types of network infrastructures; Skilled in switching, routing, DNS/DHCP, Smart Grid RF networking hardware installation and maintenance; High level of technical competency in the Smart Grid and network field
