Tampa Electric Company is seeking an experienced and strategic accounting leader to join our Finance organization as a Senior Manager, Accounting. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with significant expertise in employee benefits accounting, including pension, OPEB, deferred compensation, and other post-retirement benefit programs.
As a key member of our accounting leadership team, you will provide technical accounting guidance, lead critical accounting operations, oversee financial reporting and internal controls, and serve as the organization's subject matter expert for benefit-related accounting matters. You will partner with senior leadership, actuaries, auditors, and finance professionals to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and sound financial governance.
What You'll Do
Lead Accounting Excellence
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for accounting operations and financial reporting activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Maintain the integrity of financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Drive process improvement, standardization, and operational efficiencies across accounting functions.
Serve as the Benefits Accounting Expert
- Lead accounting and reporting activities related to:
- Defined Benefit Pension Plans
- Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB)
- Deferred Compensation Programs
- Healthcare and Employee Benefit Plans
- Partner with actuaries, external auditors, and finance leadership on benefit plan valuations and accounting implications.
- Ensure compliance with ASC 715 and other applicable accounting guidance.
- Oversee preparation of financial statement disclosures and supporting analyses related to employee benefit obligations.
Provide Technical Accounting Leadership
- Interpret and apply complex U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Evaluate accounting impacts of significant business transactions and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance to accounting teams and business partners on technical accounting matters.
Strengthen Controls and Governance
- Maintain a strong internal control environment.
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Identify financial and compliance risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Promote financial governance and accountability throughout the organization.
Develop High-Performing Teams
- Lead, coach, and mentor accounting professionals.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Active CPA license.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting or financial experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or significant project leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex accounting matters and working with senior leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with:
- Pension accounting
- OPEB accounting
- Employee benefits accounting
- ASC 715
- Retirement and deferred compensation plans
- Experience partnering with actuaries and external auditors.
- Public company and SEC reporting experience.
- Regulated utility accounting experience.
- Public accounting background.
- Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA.
- Experience with SAP, PowerPlan, BPC, or similar financial systems.
