Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

TITLE:    Regional Affairs Associate Manager

POSITION CONCEPT 
The Regional Affairs Associate Manager is responsible for developing, cultivating, and managing strategic relationships with elected officials, governmental staff, business and community leaders, and customers for Tampa Electric. Promotes corporate earnings growth and goals through strategic government, economic and stakeholder engagement initiatives. Supports operations including permits, franchise agreements, outreach on infrastructure projects, assistance with customer matters and emergency response functions.

 

FOCUS AREAS: Community Relations, Event Coordination, Non-profit 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Manages key governmental, community and stakeholder relationships in the assigned areas; achieved through identifying the risks and opportunities to our business, effectively shaping positive outcomes related to these areas and establishing open communication channels with key stakeholders in a proactive and effective manner. (15%)
2.    Provides strategic support on the development of company’s community and corporate citizenship contribution, participation, and communication strategy; provide guidance on the company’s board involvement in key organizations in support of interests and business needs in assigned area. (10%)
3.    Develops and implements strategies to advise the team by identifying, anticipating, and managing political and reputational concerns that arise before assigned political bodies affecting corporate or partner interests and effectively shapes positive outcomes. (10%)
4.    Gathers and communicates relevant political, community and business intelligence supporting growth opportunities for Tampa Electric; coordinate with other departments to influence customer decisions related to relocation and/or expansion. (10%)
5.    Provides tactical support to operations/business units on elevated issues related to local municipal governments including rights-of-way access, permitting, relocation of facilities, emergencies, customer matters and any local government policy, ordinance or rule that affects providing reliable, cost-effective service. (15%)
6.    Proactive public affairs review of strategic initiatives and projects and other issues in the various business units to identify potential stakeholder/community concerns; provides guidance and leadership on stakeholder engagement/community outreach in assigned area. 10%
7.    Consults with business units on upcoming infrastructure projects, proactively reviewing plans to identify potential community concerns, provides community outreach recommendations and leadership in carrying out related tasks. (10%)
8.    Collaborates with the Community Investment Manager and others to support the community outreach activities through in-kind donations, tours, speaking opportunities, advocacy programs, board placements, relationship building, contributions and sponsorship dollars as part of the established agreement deliverables. Assists with organization and management of non-profit event and partnership deliverables such as ads, tabling, attendees, invitations and logistics to ensure that Tampa Electric and its team members are visible in the community. Represents Tampa Electric at community events and meetings to promote partnership and visibility as needed. (15%)
9.    Leads cross-functional event logistics efforts across multiple business units. Organize Tampa Electric’s involvement in community-based events, including logistics for the company float and team member participation. Coordinate schedules, event details, and vendor arrangements to ensure safe and organized event participation. (15%)

QUALIFICATIONS

Education 
Required:    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Political Science, Business or any other related field of study.

Licenses/Certifications 
Preferred:    N/A

 

Related Experience 
Required:    4 years of related experience related to a portion of the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Must reside in Hillsborough County.
Preferred:    Experience in corporate government relations, as a political consultant or in similar work for a business or association or other related experience in researching and resolving customer issues .

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Knowledge of the organization and functions of Regional Affairs activities, and an understanding of the organization and practices of the local government. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the work of multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff; analyze administrative policies, organization, procedures and practices; maintain working and administrative relationships with representatives of the local elected officials with solid government acumen. Regularly apply independent thought, provide consultation and devise recommendations in the area of Regional Affairs.  Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 
Preferred:    Knowledge of the utility sector. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Occasional travel required and flexibility to work outside normal business hours.
