Concept: The Manager, Mechanical System Reliability operates existing and directs the development of new standardized fleet Maintenance Strategy for Mechanical system assets and technical guidance for Energy Supply. This position works closely with the Director, Asset Management to develop a common approach to mechanical system asset Maintenance Strategies for Energy Supply (ES).
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Manager, Mechanical System Reliability is responsible for executing Asset Class Operations programs, and Performance Programs in collaboration with the AM Program Manager such that all intel is captured, processed and ingested in designed Asset Class Management Systems that enable Fleet Risk Determination and Fleet Risk Mitigation. The Manager will also work with Program Manager to develop sustainable fleet programs where needed.
Specifically:
- Establish a continuous collaborative reliability management process for mechanical systems which involves the oversight of mechanical system Asset Criticality, failure mechanism monitoring plan, health indicator development and determination of overall asset health, Asset Risk and coordination with equipment owners on recommended actions. These processes will be consistent with guidelines outlined in the overarching AM Program document.
- Facilitation of performance monitoring, tracking of reliability metrics for mechanical system assets, GADS Reporting, management of change including the evaluation of changes to mechanical systems, benchmarking and tracking of functional performance and condition of mechanical systems.
- Lead the mechanical reliability teams for Energy Supply , driving performance monitoring and any outage or capital planning.
- Lead the Predictive Monitoring (PdM) Program and Risk Based Inspections for Tampa Electric coordinating the use of PdM technologies such as thermography, vibration, and acoustic. Oversight of inspections and assessments such as fleet level tube sampling and NDE programs.
- Facilitate Unit Heat Rate and Efficiency Program for Tampa Electric involving development and maintenance of plant thermodynamic models and the identification, evaluation and implementation of heat rate and efficiency projects, including AI performance monitoring opportunities
- Support the Asset Management and Loss Control reporting requirements

Direct Supervision: Direct supervisory responsibility for the Mechanical Reliability team.
Indirect Supervision: Consultants, project teams
RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal: Works closely with AM Program Manager, ES team members including Vice Presidents, directors, managers, engineers, technicians.
Key External: Regulators, Consultants, Contractors, Industry Associations, Vendors
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited or mutually recognized program
Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: Florida Professional Engineer’s License
Experience
Related Experience
Required: Minimum of 6 years of work experience in mechanical system design, implementation, operation and maintenance.
Preferred: 5 years of experience with combined cycle generating units.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required: Working knowledge of mechanical system design, reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices and power delivery systems used in electric utilities. This position requires a strong understanding of power generation and delivery engineering principles and materials. In addition, this position requires the ability to organize, lead and resolve technical and process problems. The ability to effectively lead and motivate individuals to meet organization goals and personal development needs is required. Good project management skills, time management skills and communication skills are required.
Preferred: Working knowledge of system impact and mechanical system studies and related work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to work in a powerplant environment for extended periods of time. Must be able to work irregular hours, overtime, and possible holidays.
