The Mgr Engineering Support Services provides strategic and functional leadership and direction to a consolidated team of engineers and specialists providing project management, project controls and construction management support to all Project Scope Approval level (PSA-level) Electric Delivery capital projects. May lead and/or support project work involving internal or external team members. May lead and / or supports other non-PSA level efforts and initiatives within Electric Delivery  as needed.  

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Provide leadership & direction on  PSA-level capital  projects within Electric Delivery, includes providing engineering oversight, technical direction and financial support to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant project execution and delivery.
  2. Provide leadership and oversight to team members and direct reports for the planning, estimating, engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of multiple capital and projects across the department.
  3. Maintain a culture of Safety Excellence, ensuring team members utilize and adhere to all applicable policies, practices, and compliance standards. Purposefully and actively engage employees and contractors on safety related items to promote awareness, risk identification and mitigation, and continued improvement toward achieving a workplace zero injuries.
  4. Maintain a highly efficient and highly motivated work force, committed to the safe, reliable design, construction, and operation of power transmission and delivery equipment and systems. Develop team members  through coaching, performance management, career planning, training, special assignments, and cross training. Maintain a current succession plan for assigned team members.
  5. Provide input and support on business unit goals, objectives, and initiatives. Work closely with key business unit leadership to algin resources and priorities to meet overall business objectives.
  6. Manage scope and budget development for assigned projects. Support budget and capital program development and management  business unit as required. Support business unit with Capital Camp preparation and report out.
  7. Ensure design and construction compliance with all applicable codes, standards, best practices, laws, and operational parameters/constraints.
  8. Provide construction and field support, change management support and guidance, QA/QC oversight through technical specialists and controls functions.

 


QUALIFICATIONS
Education  
Required:     Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET Accredited University.
Preferred:    Graduate technical degree, MBA or advanced management training.

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Preferred:    Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Florida 

 

Related Experience 
Required:    6 years of work experience related industrial experience in the areas of project engineering, maintenance, outage management and / or project management. 

Preferred:   10 years experience directly related to electric transmission / delivery  construction, maintenance, project management, and engineering in progressively more responsible roles.

 

Supervisory Experience 
Required:    5 years directly or indirectly supervising professional and technical team members    
Preferred:   5 years of direct supervision of engineering and technical professionals 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 

Required:   Strong organizational and project management skills; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and skill in applying solid judgement.  Strong knowledge of engineering standards and principles related to power generation, design codes, materials and their applications, and utility business economics. The ability to effectively lead and motivate teams/individuals to meet company and department goals along with personal and career development goals is required. Must be able to pass a pulmonary function and negative pressure respirator fit test. Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) on the job

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Office environment with frequent field visits and walkdowns of  construction sites
  • Respond to business unit emergency response needs with 24/7 coverage as required  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work in a dusty, hot, and noisy environment
  • Must be able to work from elevated platforms
  • Must be able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs
  • Frequent driving between plant locations
