POSITION CONCEPT

The Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE)  Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing tasks and support service as required for the inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting of the company’s fleet of four (4) Wartsila reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE) and associated auxiliary equipment located at the MacDill Power Station, which is owned and operated by Tampa Electric’s Bayside Power Station.  This position’s responsibility includes providing support to ensure engine and auxiliary system efficiency, reliability, integrity, and health by maintenance planning, supporting and performing maintenance activities in a safe manner. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support and performance of tasks to maintain/troubleshoot/repair the Wartsila RICE and associated auxiliary equipment to help maintain optimal plant performance.
  • Responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the RICE engines, including engine overhauls, disassembly and inspections.
  • Support the development and improvement of the preventive and predictive maintenance program. (ie. vibration testing and lube oil analysis).  Make use of and disseminate predictive data to ensure machinery health condition and predict machinery maintenance requirements. 
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining accurate as-found and as-left engine records and inspections.
  • Responsible for coordination between the station, contractors, vendors and internal customers when planning or executing maintenance and outage work. 
  • Provide and support Interaction and communication  daily with plant tech and operation teams.  Provide technical support, direction and training to support plant operations.   Provide technical support to maintenance Staff. 
  • Provide support to identify and recommend inventory and tools required to maintain the equipment in an efficient and reliable manner. 
  • Assist in the station budgeting process and provide annual forecast of expected contractor manpower levels and contractor costs. 
  • Follow all company and plant guidelines and applicable processes including but not limited to NERC, safety, environmental and Air Force Base procedures.

 

EDUCATION

Required: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred: Undergraduate degree in marine, mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering or technology,  Millwright technical training certification, OEM medium speed engine maintenance training

 

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

Preferred: Machine Lubrication Technician (ICML MLT level 1)

 

EXPERIENCE

Required: Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a marine or power plant environment that has Wartsila engines or equivalent. 

Preferred: Field service or shipyard experience with medium speed engine control experience

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS /ABILITIES (KSA)

Required: Knowledge & skill of instrumentation controls and devices.  Understanding of mechanical systems and balance of plant equipment used on RICE engines.  Ability to read P&ID drawings, mechanical drawings and O&M manuals.  Ability to work in an industrial environment.  Good interpersonal, oral & written communication skills.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing and able to respond to plant needs with 24/7 coverage.
  • Must be willing and able to work in dusty, hot and noisy environments.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing and able to pass a baseline physical with pulmonary function and negative pressure respirator fit test.
  • Must be willing and able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) on-the-job.
  • Must be willing and able to work from elevated platforms
  • Must be willing and able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs
