Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

POSITION CONCEPT

 

Responsible for monitoring and evaluating newly constructed, converted, and maintained lighting services of outside contractors and internal crews. Verify Lighting Field Engineering Technician designs of overhead and underground construction work requests to ensure materials, drawings and methods of installation are accurate. This position acts as the TEC subject matter expert on all contractor construction related issues in relation to TEC general rules and specifications.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Inspect and post check overhead and underground lighting installations to ensure final as-builts reflect TEC’s approved general rules and specifications. (50%)
  2. Record daily data from field inspections into TEC Lighting inspection database to monitor contractor and internal crew performance and efficiencies and report on issues of concern regarding workmanship and safety violations. (10%)
  3. Oversees projects are completed in a cost-effective and timely manner. Verify contractor units and hourly rates reflect final construction and assist in invoice issues pertaining to correct billing of previous inspected work by contractors. Input all contractor invoices into WorkPro. Reconciliation in areas of responsibility, which includes all related costs for materials, labor and other resources. (20%)
  4. Assist with resolving customer issues of access and site restoration with contractors and act a liaison between any disputes with the contractor and company to the customer. (10%)
  5. Acts as the subject matter expert to make lighting construction scope change decisions of in any variations of TEC General Rules and Specifications.  Follows up that scope changes are approved by the lighting designer to ensure that appropriate changes are made in WorkPro and GIS.  Miscellaneous duties as assigned. (10%)

RELATIONSHIPS

Key Internal: ED Management, Stores, Distribution Design Technicians, System Planning, System Service, Planning and Scheduling, Customer Service, Claims and various other TEC departments

Key External: Customers, governmental agencies, developers, engineering firms, contractors, and others.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

Required: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent certificate.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required: Valid Florida driver’s license and safe driving record.

 

Related Experience

Required: Minimum of eight (8) years of working on secondary voltage for a regulated utility or five (5) years as a journeyman lineman or troubleman.

Preferred: Four (4) years of TEC line crew leader experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:

  • Must have good communication and organization skills to meet field audit quotas and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be capable of providing in-field design directions to contractors in all areas of TEC overhead and underground construction.
  • Must be able to work in and around energized equipment and capable of reading electrical designs.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of TEC General Rules and Specifications, WorkPro, and GIS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Daily working conditions include office and field construction environments. The daily use of a company vehicle is provided for construction audits and inspections. The use of personal protective equipment to include fire resistant (FR) clothing and rubber gloves is required around energized conductors and equipment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Driving to locations in all TEC service areas.

Walking to field locations for inspection purposes.

Lifting 20 lbs regularly and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
