POSITION CONCEPT: Gas Scheduler
The Gas Scheduler is responsible for the timely daily scheduling of natural gas, maintaining reliable and cost competitive supplies. Provides accurate timely updates to internal systems and reports. Assists in the seasonal and annual planning of gas supply and transportation portfolio. Performs under moderate supervision. Responsible for supporting the activities in the areas of gas supply and wholesale origination, with a primary focus on the administration of gas supply and transportation activities. Scheduling and Trading responsibilities will include the daily scheduling of gas supply and transportation on up-stream pipelines and the daily confirmation of gas supply scheduled to be delivered to the distribution system. Responsibilities also include the daily spot gas purchasing, daily marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales, development and maintenance of daily and monthly operation reports, and daily monitoring of market conditions, operations, and constraints on the upstream pipelines
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the daily scheduling of natural gas necessary to meet the generation requirements of the company’s system requirements for the company’s gas distribution system and to maintain a reliable and low-cost supply of natural gas and transportation. This includes assisting in gas scheduling, receipt point determination, transportation capacity nomination, receipt and delivery point imbalance quantities reconciliation.
- Responsible for posting, recalling and putting pipeline capacity on multiple pipelines (FGT, Sonat and Gulfstream). Assists in the seasonal and annual planning of gas supply and transportation portfolio and the daily marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales or capacity release. Serves as the back up to the Gas Trader or Senior Gas Trader in their absence.
- Responsible for the daily monitoring and response to Operational Flow Orders, Alert Days, and Limitation Orders on the upstream pipelines and storage facilities. Closely coordinates any operational issues/concerns with gas control (internal/external).
- Maintain knowledge of pipeline systems (FGT, Sonat, Gulfstream, Transco, SESH and Sabal Trail) and applicable storage facilities systems (Bay Gas and Southern Pines) to schedule, confirm, and monitor upstream pipeline information.
- Maintain working knowledge of the company’s Gas Management Systems for both on-system and off-system scheduling, confirmation, gas accounting, and reporting.
- Preparation of daily and monthly reports including natural gas position and imbalances, market pricing, portfolio performance, ad hoc analysis, etc.
- Coordination with accounting team members for verification and reconciliation of natural gas and transportation capacity invoices including billing verification of quantities and prices. Resolution of invoice/billing discrepancies.
- Reconciliation of month-ending pipeline transportation and supply imbalances.
- Responsible for accurate deal entry and scheduling in the Energy Trading and Risk Management system (Allegro) to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
POSITION CONCEPT – Gas Trader
The Gas Trader function is responsible for supporting activities in the areas of gas supply and wholesale origination, with a primary focus on the administration of gas supply and transportation activities. Scheduling daily gas supply and transportation on up-stream pipelines and the daily confirmation of gas supply scheduled to be delivered to the distribution system. Responsibilities include the daily spot gas purchasing, daily marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales, development and maintenance of daily and monthly operation reports, and daily monitoring of market conditions, operations, and constraints on the upstream pipelines. Responsible for the purchasing and selling of gas supply or daily imbalance. Performs under general supervision.
In addition to the Primary Duties of the Gas Scheduler:
- Responsible for the daily or monthly marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales or capacity release.
- Responsible for the purchasing and selling of gas supply including imbalances.
- Responsible for monitoring large transportation customer activity on the company’s gas distribution system (if applicable).
POSITION CONCEPT – Sr Gas Trader
The Sr Gas Trader function is responsible for supporting activities in the areas of gas supply and wholesale origination, with a primary focus on the administration of gas supply and transportation activities. Scheduling of gas supply and transportation on up-stream pipelines and the daily confirmation of gas supply scheduled to be delivered to the distribution system. Responsibilities also include the daily spot gas purchasing, daily marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales, development and maintenance of daily and monthly operation reports, and daily monitoring of market conditions, operations, and constraints on the upstream pipelines serving the company. Requires use of sound knowledge of functional area of work and advanced business and technical concepts. May provide mentoring and technical guidance to Gas Scheduler and Gas Trader team members. Performs under limited supervision.
In addition to the Primary Duties of the Gas Trader:
- Develop and execute the daily strategy and optimization of the portfolio.
- Maximize incentive/ optimization mechanism gains through the execution of profitable, low risk transactions to lower overall costs to customers.
- Assist origination or management with any strategic decisions or analysis.
- Responsible for the trading of natural gas, including financial, physical, options, swaps and other derivative deals within the limits of risk management practices and procedures.
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. (Gas Scheduler, Gas Trader & Sr Gas Trader)
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study. (Sr Gas Trader)
Gas Scheduler:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years related experience in an energy, utility, oil, related industry.
Preferred: 2 years experience in natural gas or power trading industry.
Gas Trader:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 6 years related experience including (2) years of natural gas or power trading industry experience.
Sr Gas Trader:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 8 years related experience including (2) years in energy commodity trading.
Gas Scheduler:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Self-starter and motivated. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred: Knowledge of Gas Industries Standards Board (GISB) or North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) standards and procedures. Proficiency in the use of Internet communication systems and electronic nomination systems. Knowledge of Interstate Pipeline electronic nominations processes associated with transportation nominations.
Gas Trader:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Knowledge of Interstate Pipeline electronic nominations processes associated with transportation nominations. Ability to analyze portfolio and market conditions while executing favorable transactions for the company. Ability to make quick decisions while under pressure. Sound judgement. Ability to work closely with a team in an open trade floor environment.
Preferred: Knowledge of trading tools and indices (OTC, NYMEX). Knowledge of Gas Industries Standards Board (GISB) or North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) standards and procedures.
Sr Gas Trader:
Required: Extensive knowledge of trading tools and indices (OTC, NYMEX). Strong Negotiation skills. Demonstrated Leadership skills with ability to think strategically. Ability to produce analysis and initiatives and present them to management. Portfolio ownership. Ability to work closely with a team in an open-trade environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Often required to be on-call over weekends and holidays to monitor and maintain system. Storm duties may require offsite relocation (including overnights) during and after a storm.
