POSITION CONCEPT 
Develops, implements, and maintains programs and work processes that support and improve the Fleet 
Services organization.  Supports the implementation of technical specifications of fleet vehicles and 
associated equipment throughout Tampa Electric.  Assists in the administration of Fleet Services 
databases and prepare business studies and analytical reports to contribute to and enable educated 
business decisions by company management.  

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1. Designs specifications and modifications of standard and customized cars, trucks, trailers, and off
road equipment to meet a multitude of diverse operating requirements of Tampa Electric Company. 
Evaluates mechanical, structural, quality concerns and notates for future specification adjustments.

2. Implements processing of new vehicles/equipment technical specifications into the Fleet “Vehicle 
Management System” (VMS).  Monitors, updates, and reports on the progress of ordered 
vehicles/equipment from time received, through in-house customization, to delivery to the assigned 
driver within the VMS. Validates finished products according to design specifications. 10%  
3. Collaborates with management team to research, evaluate and execute special projects related to 
business operations, such as budgetary and cost-benefit analysis, and analysis of garage 
productivity, business efficiencies and process/procedural effectiveness.  Presents findings and 
collaborates with Fleet Manager in applying to business plans. 10%  
4. Coordinates the initiation of an annual comprehensive replacement plan for vehicles and equipment.  
Manages specification adjustments based on current needs while retaining a standardization level.  
Coordinates any manufacturer in service training pertaining to new vehicles and equipment when 
applicable. 10% 
5. Recommends any vehicle operational or safety options and equipment technology advancements, 
development, or technology to enhance productivity and utilization. 5% 
6. Monitors progress between bid award and receipt of vehicles and equipment.  Attends pre-paint 
inspections for heavy equipment with local and out-of-state vendors and internal customers. 
Coordinates preparation process of assets to meet company standards and policies before placing 
assets in service.  Inspect all vehicles and equipment during the delivery phase per the required 
specifications for any modifications.  Coordinates for all Safety related items are identified and 
resolved prior to service. 20%. 
7. Oversees asset disposal activities in accordance with established life cycle procedures, assesses 
appropriate disposal options, and ensures efficient, condition-based handling and timely progression 
through the disposal process. 15%

Key Internal:   Interacts regularly with all levels of management, administrative, and operations 
personnel.  Frequently communicate with internal customers. 
Key External:  Frequent communication with suppliers and contractors. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Education 
Required: High school diploma or GED 

Preferred: 
College Degree is preferred and will be considered in lieu of equivalent related 
experience. 

Related Experience  
Required: 
Minimum of 4 years experience in progressively more complex technical assignment 
with 3 years in a utility fleet environment. 
Preferred:  

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required: 
Knowledge of Tampa Electric’s SAP accounting system, vehicle management system, 
fleet equipment maintenance and design functions. Proficiency in advanced applications of Microsoft 
Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, SAP and Outlook.  Strong analytical skills are 
required. Excellent customer service orientation, planning and scheduling, oral and written 
communications skills required.  Must be able to travel for equipment inspections locally and out of 
state.  Must be capable of operating necessary equipment to facilitate the relocation and movement of 
assets. 
Preferred: 
Familiar with equipment application and specification requirements. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  
Ability to work on irregular work schedules on temporary assignments.  Some overtime and use of 
personal vehicles for business-related transportation.  Ability to travel as needed.
