Level 1: Engineer II
POSITION CONCEPT
The Engineer II – Meter Operations will provide leadership and technical expertise to support the engineering, design, planning, operation, documentation, and maintenance of all revenue metering equipment. Use sound knowledge of functional area of work and advanced engineering concepts, interactions, and relationships to total company operation. Provide leadership and technical expertise to support the engineering, design, planning, operation, documentation, and maintenance of all revenue metering equipment. Provide product and vendor evaluation and budget analysis. Provide product and vendor evaluation and budget analysis.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the meter technical resource by making recommendations for technical direction of all metering systems and related technologies, reviewing plans & practices and providing technical analysis. Participate and/or lead the selection, maintenance and enhancement of in-house vendor supplied meter applications and software. Responsible for departmental purchase requisitions and ordering and acting as the vendor liaison. Responsible for emergency resolution of metering problems which could occur outside of normal business hours. (20%)
- Provide project management for large or complex projects; provide technical support and solutions to Tampa Electric Company customers on all issues concerning revenue metering and sub-metering. (20%)
- Provide supervision and performance coaching for departmental team members. Prepare and administer performance evaluations (PRs), making field visits, providing technical & administrative support, authorizing, scheduling and monitoring vacation, sick time, overtime, and other compensated time, and verifying that payroll information (time sheets) are correct and timely (20%)
- Model strong leadership to ensure adherence to all Safe Work Practices and coach as necessary to ensure team members are in compliance with safety procedures. Support efforts of the safety department as well as those throughout Electric Delivery. Recognize safety achievement and encourage “close call/ near miss” discussion to benefit entire group. (10%)
- Responsible for meter standards and specifications, compliance with NERC standards, and guidelines for metering equipment processing with respect to repairs, testing requirements and retirement criteria. (10%)
- Ensures that the existing and planned revenue metering systems are in compliance with regulatory agencies (i.e. Florida Public Service Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, etc.): (10%)
a. Random Sample Test and evaluation
b. Periodic Test and evaluation
c. Acceptance Test of new metering equipment
d. Obsolete meter elimination
- Represent Tampa Electric Company as a member of utility groups and associations (i.e. Southeastern Electric Exchange, Southeastern Electricity Metering Association, the Automatic Meter Reading Association, etc.) (10%)
SUPERVISION
Direct: May have direct responsibility for one or more professional team members to include engineers and technology analysts.
RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal: Director, Meter Operations Manager, Supervisors, DDTs, , AMI Operations, Lighting, Special Billing and Load Forecasting, and Regulatory
Key External: Vendors, customers, contractors, electrical inspectors, other utilities, and utility associations
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited college/university.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or Professional Engineering Certification in the State of Florida
EXPERIENCE
Required: 4 years of experience as an Engineer performing work related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.
Preferred: 5 years of Electric Delivery operations experience.
Supervisory Experience
Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of utility and/or operations supervisory experience.
Level 2: Engineer Sr

Level 3: Principal Engineer
POSITION CONCEPT
The Principal Engineer - Meter Operations will demonstrate above expected performance as a Senior Engineer, demonstrates technical proficiency in a broad program area or one of specific importance, understanding scientific developments affecting the organization and must be a licensed Professional Engineer. Will be expected to continue technical development and growth. Provide leadership and technical expertise to support the engineering, design, planning, operation, documentation, and maintenance of all revenue metering equipment. Provide product and vendor evaluation and budget analysis.
