POSITION CONCEPT
This Engineer position is responsible for the development of the Electric Delivery Distribution 5-Year and 10-year Construction Program. The position provides analysis and technical studies to ensure reliable cost-effective expansion of Tampa Electric’s distribution system. This position is a liaison to the local service areas and provides direction for serving large customers and construction of all distribution feeder construction. This position is responsible for the annual reactive power study and supporting compliance activities as needed. This position is responsible for developing, updating and publishing the Electric Delivery Reliability Plan.
This position may be staffed at the Engineer I, II or Senior Engineer level based on skills, experience and education as outlined in the Company’s Engineer Career Path, Administrative Policy 2.13.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing engineering analysis for creation of the Electric Delivery 5-Year and 10-Year Capital Construction plan. Develop project scopes, costs and schedules. Provide technical support to Project Management team by completing cost estimates, analysis, and documentation for project-justifications. (30%)
- Supporting the Service Areas by providing engineering analysis and guidance for the design of facilities to serve large customers. Give direction and approval for the construction of all distribution feeder construction. Evaluate Relay Service requests and provide project scopes and estimates. (20%)
- Performing system analysis and studies such as annual system load forecasts, annual reactive power requirements, and system loss studies. (20%)
- Maintaining Distribution Load Flow models and providing technical support to Service Area Engineers. (15%)
- Identifying location of future substation sites and providing support to Real Estate for future land requirements. (15%)
SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Indirect Supervision: May direct other technical personnel as needed for projects, committees and general work assignments.
RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal: Works frequently with engineers, technicians and managers of various departments at Tampa Electric.
Key External: Occasionally may work with Customers, Government and/or Regulatory Agencies, Vendors, and Consultants.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college
Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: Eligibility to become a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
Related Experience
Required: Minimum of 18 months of related Engineer work experience.
Preferred: Prior experience in Distribution Engineering, Operations or Planning.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required: Familiarity of power system analysis concepts.
Preferred: Prior experience with analysis and creation of distribution construction plans. Prior experience in distribution design.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position primarily (~95% of time) works in a professional office environment. Occasionally (~5% of time) required to be outside “in the field” for site-meetings or projects meetings. Some travel may be required. Occasional unplanned and planned overtime is required. Periodically may serve as “on-call” person that requires being available to work after-hours and weekends.
