Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

TITLE:    Engineer - Distribution Assets (Multi-Level Classification*)
PERFORMANCE COACH:     Manager, Asset Management

POSITION CONCEPT 
The Engineer – Distribution Assets leads the technical and team development of a standardized Maintenance and Operational Strategy for the Distribution Grid.  This position works closely and supports the owner/operator departments for the Distribution Grid: Advanced Applications Operations Systems (AAOS), Distribution Control Center (DCC), Distribution Engineering and Operations (DEO).  
 
This Engineer leads the development of TEC’s understanding of risk to Distribution Grid function (safety, compliance, reliability, cost, resilience, and sustainability) and utilizes this information to provide prioritized mitigation actions (capital, maintenance, operational and other) to the distribution owner/operators.
 
*Engineer classification is multi-level, based on the qualification guidelines as outlined in the Company’s Engineering Career Path, Administrative Policy 2.13. A minimum classification of an Engineer II is required in this position.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (D&R) 
1.    Development and implementation of the distribution portion of the Electric Delivery Asset Management Plan which includes design/equipment specification review; health, criticality, and risk assessments; inspection, monitoring, and testing strategies; performance, and maintenance requirements. 20%
2.    Development and implementation of the distribution portion of a comprehensive Electric Delivery Reliability Improvement Plan using empirical data to predict reliability improvements. 20%
3.    Supervise the tracking, analysis and reporting of reliability metrics for all asset classes.  Lead all efforts for continuous improvement of such tracking and analysis. Provide planning, feedback and skill building to Reliability team members. Administer the Performance Review (PR) and Individual Development Plan (IDP) process. 20%
4.    Facilitation of system root cause analysis for all asset classes.  Facilitation and tracking of resulting action plans to improve system performance. 20%
5.    Support the development, implementation and maintenance  of a comprehensive data collection and predictive modeling tool for distribution assets that assists in the prioritization of capital expenditure and complements the Asset Management and Reliability Improvement Plans. 10%
6.    Maintain measurement of the distribution asset portfolio performance to ensure achievement of organization vision and goals through performance benchmarking. 10%

Indirect Supervision:     Distribution field personnel, contract engineering and operations personnel

Key Internal:          Electric Delivery directors, managers, supervisors, and engineers

QUALIFICATIONS

Education 
Required:    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.   

Preferred:    Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university 

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Preferred:    Florida Professional Engineers License (Required at the Senior Consulting Engineer level)

 

Experience 
Required:    Minimum of four years of engineering work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required.  Related experience consists of:  engineering of distribution assets and/or supervision of distribution personnel.

Preferred:    Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience; Experience in the operations and maintenance best practices, risk management and capital planning in power delivery distribution or a closely related industry.

 

Supervisory Experience 
Preferred:    A minimum of two years supervisory experience leading distribution personnel.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:     A sound understanding of power delivery distribution engineering principals, materials and their applications.  Working knowledge of electric delivery reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices and power delivery systems used in electric utilities. Working knowledge of Work Management systems, and Project Management in power delivery.  In addition, this position requires the ability to organize, lead and resolve technical and process problems. The ability to effectively lead and motivate individuals to meet organization goals and personal development needs is required.  Good project management skills, time management skills and communication skills are required. 
Preferred:    Knowledge of asset management principals such as PAS 55 or ISO 55000 or similar corporate or industry specific standards/programs.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Must be able to work irregular hours, overtime and possible holidays.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS 
Walking (sometimes on uneven surfaces), bending and driving as needed.
