The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.
Accountabilities: As a successful candidate for our Engineering Co-op, you would:
• Work closely with other engineers, analysts, specialists, within the Electrical System Reliability team on developing asset maintenance strategies for critical equipment on Substation and Transmission systems.
• Develop asset lists, equipment hierarchy, support development of schedules, and monitoring tools. This may include using software packages such as WorkMan, Cascade, SharePoint, PowerBI, etc.
• Provide administrative and technical support.
• Conduct in-field surveys by collecting technical data, documentation, inspections, photos, readings, etc.
• Work with engineers and consultants/contractors on small scale electrical projects, or major maintenance jobs. Such activities include transformer refurbishments, field installation and commissioning of monitoring technologies and protective systems
• Conduct electrical testing reports reviews for critical assets and updating the health scores
• Research drawings, reports, manual documents and update them as required.
• Obtain training and use various database tools available for updates and analysis. Some of these tools include Cascade, Access, and Excel
Education/Certification/GPA: The successful applicant should be in their second, third or fourth year of an ABET accredited university or college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in an engineer discipline (Electrical Engineering preferred). A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program is a must.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mostly in a normal office environment but can spend an hour or more on any given day in the field at substations, Generating stations, Solar Generation facilities, Construction sites. During storm events some overtime and/or weekend work may be required. Drivers license and access to vehicle as travel to other facilities will be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS
Working in substations requires walking on uneven surfaces (granite rock, limestone roadways and grass areas)
The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted. A pre-employment drug screening, as well as a background check (including education, employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre-employment screening.
