Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

Title: Dir ED Engineering, Construction, and Project Management

The Dir ED Engineering, Construction, & PM (Project Management) is responsible for managing all large capital projects in ED totaling approximately $150M/year. Projects will include roadway relocations, large customer projects, transmission, substation, and distribution projects  driven by growth identified by System Planning.  Partner with multiple departments to deliver enhanced accountabilities, communication, effective handoffs, cost control, forecasting, scheduling and reporting.  Deliver better results for Tampa Electric customers and effectively managing capital with timely, safe, reliable and on budget execution.  Manage relationships between the company and the engineering, construction and material suppliers to support project.  Contribute essential inputs to Electric Delivery’s annual capital budget. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  1. Provide strategic leadership, implement best practices and oversee financial controls within Tampa Electric’s multiple capital projects by managing Electric Delivery projects. Contribute essential inputs to Electric Delivery’s annual capital budget and oversee financial controls, ensuring the project management team maintains accurate and timely project forecasts to support company financial forecast/budget goals.
  2. Ensure the accurate reporting of project status, accurate cost estimates/forecasts, reliable schedules, overall status, risks, and handling of critical issues significantly impacting project performance or department/company operations. Ensure adherence of Project Management practices and standard processes to uphold consistency, maintain schedule driven decisions, and efficiency across projects. Facilitate regular status update meetings, ensuring they deliver value, drive performance, and execute project goals effectively.
  3. Responsible for overseeing all phases of the projects to meet the goals of the company with respect to safety, schedule, financials, engineering standards, construction standards, and operating performance.  Continuously identify enhancements and actively contribute to the development of best practices and advancing the maturity of ED Engineering, Construction, and Project Management department against established targets.
  4. Maintain the necessary controls to ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures, federal, state, and local laws, codes, engineering codes and practice, construction codes and practice, and Contract Partners contracts.
  5. Develop and maintain long-term project workload forecasts to ensure an adequate resourcing. Develop annual department budgets, measure performance, and lead training/development initiatives for the department.
  6. Direct the department to foster collaborative and trusting relationships with Customer Experience to ensure timely and accurate communication between the project team, the external customers, and Customer Experience team members.
  7. Provide safety leadership and compliance with the Contractor Safety Management Program, and support department safety goals and objectives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Education  
Required:      Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or related field from an accredited college/university.
Preferred:      PE, MBA or other advanced degree.

 

Licenses/Certifications
Preferred:     PMP certification

 

Related Experience 
Required:     10 years of electric utility experience, leading large projects, developing new programs and business plans, developing, and managing complex budgets.  Present to large groups of people and prepare detailed financial reporting. 
Preferred:     12  years of electric utility work experience; experience in leading, developing and implementing business plans, negotiating contracts, supervising employees, and project management functions.

 

Supervisory Experience:
Required:     5 years supervision of team(s)

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:     Proven project management and program development skills, proficiency in oral and written presentations and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.    
Preferred:     Thorough working understanding of electric utility systems and knowledgeable about Utility engineering, construction, and project management.
