Position Overview
Tampa Electric Company is seeking a Business Planning Analyst to support budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting activities across our business units. This position is well suited for an early-career analyst who has developed a foundation in finance or accounting and is ready to deepen their expertise, expand their responsibilities, and grow within a collaborative business planning team.
The primary hiring focus is at the Level II Analyst level; however, we will also consider strong entry-level candidates (Level I) with relevant education and a demonstrated ability to grow, as well as developing Senior-level candidates (Level III) who are ready to take on increased independence and complexity.
Key Responsibilities (Progressive by Level)
- Support the preparation of Capital, O&M, and Clause budgets and forecasts for Tampa Electric business units
- Analyze actual, budgeted, and forecasted financial data and assist with identifying key drivers and variances
- Participate in month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reclasses, in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models, tools, and reports used for management decision-making
- Partner with business unit teams to develop and document financial assumptions
- Prepare financial analyses, reports, and presentations that connect operational activity to financial performance
- Ensure financial data accuracy and completeness in systems such as SAP, BPC/EPM, and PowerPlan
- Participate in storm response and recovery support, including cost estimation and financial tracking
- (Senior level) Independently communicate financial insights, identify process improvements, and support team knowledge-sharing

This role is part of an established analyst progression. As analysts gain experience, expand their technical skills, and demonstrate strong performance, they may take on:
- Increased ownership of budgeting and forecasting responsibilities
- Greater independence in analysis and stakeholder communication
- More complex financial modeling and long-term planning work
Advancement is based on demonstrated capability, contribution, and business need, not solely time in role.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related financial field
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
Experience
- Level I: Entry-level; no prior financial experience required
- Level II (target level): 2+ years of financial, accounting, or analytical experience
- Senior (Level III): 4+ years of progressive financial experience
- Preferred (all levels): Experience in a regulated utility or similarly complex operating environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; advanced skills develop with level
- Experience with SAP, BPC/EPM, PowerPlan, or similar enterprise financial systems preferred
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to continue developing financial and business expertise
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
