Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Position Overview
The Senior Accountant – Property Accounting plays a critical role in managing and analyzing property, plant, and equipment (PPE) for Tampa Electric and affiliated Florida operations. This position ensures accurate accounting and compliance for over $13 billion in assets, supporting financial integrity and regulatory requirements. The role combines technical accounting expertise with knowledge of utility operations to deliver accurate reporting and process improvements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Asset Management: Oversee accounting for plant assets in compliance with GAAP, FERC, and regulatory standards. Perform unitization of capital work orders and monitor in-service dates.
  • Financial Close & Reporting: Execute month-end close activities including AFUDC calculations, asset retirements, depreciation, and journal entries. Prepare PPE forecasts and actuals for business planning and cost models
  • Compliance & Controls: Maintain FERC property records, ensure adherence to capitalization policies, SOX controls, and support internal/external audits.
    Collaboration & Training: Partner with Finance and field teams to provide guidance on property accounting policies and processes. Respond to internal and external data requests.
  • Process Improvement: Apply judgment to resolve complex accounting issues, improve workflows, and support regulatory efforts.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting or related discipline


Experience:

  • Required: 4+ years in Finance/Accounting or Engineering
  • Preferred: Utility industry experience in PPE accounting, with 2+ years in a senior or lead role


Certifications:

  • Preferred: CPA or PE license


Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FERC accounting, and utility regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP, PowerPlan, and Work Management Systems preferred


Core Competencies:

  • Analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
