POSITION CONCEPT
The Regulatory Accounting Accountant is responsible for regulatory accounting and reporting functions, including, but not limited to: journal entries, account reconciliations, regulatory reporting, budget and forecasting, audit requests, account analysis and special projects as needed.
Advancement in Progression
Advancement to a higher level is based on value added to the Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e. based solely on time in the job, but will be based on the employee’s performance, qualifications, and the technical needs of the department.
Job Level 1: ACCOUNTANT I
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare journal entries
- Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts
- Prepare reports filed with regulatory agencies including FERC, EIA and FPSC
- Contribute to department month-end closeout responsibilities
- Prepare account analysis and research account variances
- Contribute to the preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Assist with ad hoc reporting and special projects
- Assist with the preparation of data requests during rate cases and audits
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited university or college.
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or financial-related field will be accepted in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Related Experience
- Required: No financial work experience is required, but it is preferred
- Preferred: One or more years of financial work experience with regulated utility accounting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
- Required: Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Self-motivated and detail oriented; strong analytical skills; organized
- Preferred: Knowledge of software/systems such as SAP, Power Plant and Allegro
Job Level 2: ACCOUNTING ANALYST
POSITION CONCEPT
Same as above, with increasing complexity and with a higher level of contribution

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
- Self-motivated and detail oriented with advanced analytical and organizational skills; works with minimal supervision and performs well in a deadline driven environment.
- The ability to engage professionally with leadership and internal/external constituents.
- Demonstrates judgement and identifies potential process improvements.
- Preferred:
- Advanced knowledge of with software/systems such as SAP, BPC, Power Plant and Allegro.
Job Level 3: ACCOUNTING ANALYST SENIOR

- Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts
- Prepare and peer review reports filed with regulatory agencies including FERC, EIA and FPSC

- Prepare complex account analysis and research account variances
- Prepare and peer review budgets and forecasts
- Create ad hoc reports and initiate special projects
- Independently handles data requests during rate cases and audits
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited university or college
- Masters in Accounting, Finance, or financial-related field will be accepted in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Licenses/Certifications
- Preferred: CPA preferred

- Required: Minimum of 5 years of financial work experience
- Preferred: Five or more years of financial work experience with regulated utility accounting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
- Required:
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and regulatory FERC accounting;
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with a focus on Microsoft Excel;
- Self-motivated and detail oriented with advanced analytical and organizational skills;

- The ability to professionally engage with senior leadership and internal/external constituents on a frequent basis.
