POSITION CONCEPT: 
The Mgr Solar Maintenance is responsible for the safe, cost effective, and environmentally responsible maintenance, and repair of all solar power and energy storage assets in the Tampa Electric system’s South Tampa area. Responsible for leading the development and implementation of maintenance processes, standards, practices, and procedures to ensure safe, reliable, resilient, and efficient operation of solar and energy storage assets and systems. Responsible for developing long term maintenance strategies, staffing plans, performance metrics and monitoring systems, along with supporting the full adoption and integration of the Energy Delivery and Energy Supply Asset Management program. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the development of long-term maintenance strategies for all solar assets, including photovoltaic power stations and energy storage equipment in the South Tampa area. Review and evaluate plant performance metrics while understanding asset criticality, equipment health, risk analytics, and performance indicators in the development predictive, preventive, corrective, and outage maintenance programs. Take immediate action as required to ensure optimum plant performance, managing activities and functions associated with mechanical, electrical, and control system operations. 
  • Responsible for the compliance and development of an overall effective safety & environmental program for maintenance personnel and contractors in the South Tampa area. Ensure that superintendents, supervisors, technicians, and contractors place sufficient emphasis on safety & environmental training, compliance, and employee/contractor engagement, championing a zero-injury and zero-spill environment. Ensure understanding, implementation, and compliance to the Contractor Safety Management Program. Lead safety & environmental excellence by ensuring operating team and contractor safety meetings take place, reviewing proactive reports, and actively practicing safety through employee and contractor engagement on safety, health & environmental matters. Ensure HEC program understanding, compliance, and periodically reviews to maintain program applicability and accuracy, incorporating equipment/system changes, additions and/or deletions.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance procedures, standards, processes, best maintenance practices, OEM O&M recommended practices and emergency management in a safe manner with optimized life cycle costs in the South Tampa area.  Ensure maintenance procedures and records are documented, effectively communicated, adhered to, and audited for compliance.  Ensure operations is consistent with equipment capabilities, operating budget, Contractual Service Agreements, and environmental permits. 
  • Manage expenditures within approved O&M and Capital targets for the operations and maintenance of the Solar & Energy Storage Operations department.  
  • Assist with the evaluation of current staffing and baseline resource requirements, tools and inventory including contractors and Tampa Electric employees to effectively maintain and operate existing and future solar assets.  Provide direction to operating personnel and contractors to facilitate improving team performance, quality workmanship, work redesign, teamwork, and productivity consistent with Solar & Energy Storage Operations goals. Ensure adequate engineering and technical resources are utilized on operating problems and corrective actions. Develop, foster, and support a strong team environment among engineering/technical staff and operations.
  • Develop assigned staff through effective coaching, training, special assignment, and cross training. Utilize PR/IDP processes to affect team member career development, setting work priorities, and alignment to department goals and objectives. 
  • Provide input on Solar Operations goals.  Work with Solar & Energy Storage Operations Management Team in developing and prioritizing plans to support goals.  Make recommendations to the Director in areas of manpower, budgeting, major equipment modification, and changes in operational procedures. Develop, maintain, and manage key relationships with leaders and stakeholders in Renewable Energy, Asset Management, OP&M and the power stations to expedite a safe, efficient, and effective integration into Energy Supply. 
  • Responsible for O&M Contractor management in scope development, negotiating, implementing, and administering agreements for key service providers to operate and maintain all solar & Energy Storage assets. Assist with processing warranty claims and ensuring warranty compliance as approved by management and other duties as assigned. 

 

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities with the energy industry directly related to power generation and power plant operations and maintenance.
Preferred: Experience in Utility Solar & Energy Storage maintenance.

 

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years supervisory experience.
Preferred: 2 years supervision of covered Employees is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: A sound understanding of power generation, power delivery transmission, distribution or substation engineering principals, materials and their applications. Working knowledge of reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices and power delivery systems used in electric utilities. Strong knowledge of work management systems in power generation and delivery. Must have strong interpersonal, communication, good project management, time management and verbal/written communication skills.  Demonstrate critical thinking skills, and the ability to demonstrate seasoned judgment across a multitude of functional applications. Ability to lead initiatives and ongoing efforts to resolve issues identified in the maintenance and operation of the solar facilities.  Performance management skills. Experience supervising frontline management along with teams of craft employees that work under a collective bargaining agreement.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 
Job hours consist of primarily dayshift Monday thru Friday with some extended working hours. Must be able to work irregular and extended hours at times, and possible holidays. Working conditions consist of going to the solar facilities area to perform various duties, travel in a vehicle to various locations through the TEC service areas will be required.  Utilizing proper PPE will be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS: 
Must be able to work in dusty and hot environments.  Must be able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs.  Walking (sometimes on uneven surfaces), bending and driving as needed.
