POSITION CONCEPT
The Mgr Project Management – Energy Supply provides strategic and functional management to a group of Project Managers and Project Controls Team focused on successful completion of new generating units, major capital projects and large Outage & Project Management (O&PM) projects in the Energy Supply side of the organization. Accountable for scope, schedule, budget, safety and functionality success for $400+ Million in capital projects with approximately $100+ million of projects placed into service annually.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct Project Managers in the planning, estimating, engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of multiple capital projects. Accountable for project performance measured by safety, schedule, financial, and operating goals. Ensure adherence to adopted Project Management practices and standard processes.
- Direct management of project scope, schedule, cost, quality, human resources staffing, communications, risks, and procurements.
- Direct Project Controls Team to provide accurate accrual information, detailed variance analysis monthly and communicate project schedule with Business Planning and key stakeholders.
- Lead change and improvements in Project Management/Project Controls practices. Identify areas for improvement and work to develop best practices and maintain Project Management policies, standards, procedures, and tools. Set targets and advance the maturity of Energy Supply’s Project Management department toward these targets.
- Manage O&PM involvement in the development of budgets for assigned projects for input into annual capital budget.
- Ensure accurate project status reporting, includes updates on cost, schedule, status, and critical items materially affecting project performance or department or company operations. Present project status to Senior management and key stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Develop annual department budgets, compensation recommendations, hiring/promoting, performance measuring and training/development of Project Managers. Assign projects to Project Managers and maintain long term project workload forecasts to ensure adequate Project Management staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field.
Preferred: MBA, Graduate degree in Engineering Management. Advanced training in Project Management principles and applications
Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: Professional Engineering License
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Experience
Required: 8 years of experience in the industrial, chemical or power plant industry focused on scheduling, budgeting, cost control and contract claims negotiations.
Supervisory Experience
Required: 4 years supervisory, leadership or project lead experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required: Thorough knowledge of project management theories and methods. Strong knowledge of work planning, scheduling, and estimating methods as well as knowledge of outage planning, coordination methods, procurement procedures and policies. Able to build strong teams. Must be an excellent oral and written communicator. Proven ability to plan, organize or analyze a project from beginning to end; Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external parties; Ability to write accurate reports using clear and concise language; utility industry knowledge.
Preferred: Must have a solid understanding of Energy Supply business practices including contracts, budgeting, staffing, and resource planning.

Working Conditions
Required:Occasional walkdown of generating facilities and construction sites. Frequent driving between different locations.
This position requires working in an industrial environment (including heights and confined space), working in a Power Generation facility up to 25% of the workday, working some overtime (weekends and holidays), some travel locally, nationally and limited internationally.
