Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

POSITION CONCEPT:

The Superintendent - Generation is responsible in a line capacity to the Manager - Operations for the leadership of all assigned operating personnel. The incumbent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems, including NERC compliance, environmental compliance, water management, team work assignments, and PM completion, to ensure an optimum and professional response to his customer’s (Energy Control Center) power needs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide operational leadership to operations teams to ensure that the generating units perform in a safe, efficient, reliable, cost effective and environmentally acceptable manner. Includes daily directions to on-shift teams as well as off-shift teams through proper turnovers, night orders, and other means of communicating expectations.
  • Provide direct leadership to their assigned personnel. Coach and foster an environment of open communication with employees. Conduct regular performance reviews. Utilize company tools to develop employee performance and skills. Ensure safe work practices and station safety programs are followed. Ensure Corporate/Department (ES)/Station Policies are understood and practiced. Maintain and provide leadership toward attainment of company and station goals.
  • Develop and maintain operations and maintenance team schedules to ensure adequate staffing to address station needs and to minimize overtime.
  • Assist in the development of training curriculum and oversee the operational training of the IGCC process specialists, ensuring all required training is completed.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating and maintenance procedures, as well as emergency response plans and procedures. This includes overseeing the execution of the station’s Storm Preparedness plan and Freeze Protection plans.
  • Responsible for maintaining and execution of the Hazardous Energy Control program to ensure safety of all personnel and equipment. Includes implementation and training of NiSoft software updates.
  • Coordinate Polk Power Station operation and maintenance activities with Energy Supply and Energy Control Center personnel to meet station and customer needs. This includes scheduling maintenance, communicating daily generating capabilities, and entry of GADS data when required.
  • Responsible for station security. Coordinates gate operations and security schedule to cover plant operations and construction activities.
  • Make recommendations on equipment, budget, and plant requirements. Also, perform any other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION:

Required: A valid high school diploma or valid GED

Preferred:

 

EXPERIENCE:

Required: A minimum of 5 years in the operation of an electrical generating facility

Preferred:

 

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Preferred: A minimum of 2 years leading industrial work team

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: Working knowledge of combined cycle generation. Understanding of the concept of “Operational Best Practices”. Knowledge of Safe Work Practices including HEC Procedure requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work rotating (Modified DuPont) 12-hour shifts (nights, weekend), including scheduled and unscheduled overtime as well as holidays. Position requires frequent travel into plant. Exposure to plant conditions is required. Utilizing proper PPE will be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically able to navigate through plant structure; including ascending / descending stairs (multiple levels).
