POSITION CONCEPT:
Our Special Utility Worker I – Solar performs general duties and responsibilities as assigned, providing support and assistance to mechanical, electrical and instrumentation & controls (I&C) journeymen. The SUW I also assists with other routine responsibilities in support of power station ensuring all completed work complies with Safe Work Practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists warehouse personnel with material loading/unloading, material deliveries, and maintaining used oil facility.
- Assists water & fuel lab journeymen in performance of duties.
- Provides site wide janitorial and housekeeping duties as required.
- Performs miscellaneous support duties as directed by station management.
- CDL- Specifically we have a F350 truck and trailer to transport a forklift and other equipment to various solar locations which requires a CDL.
- Fuel up utility vehicles at the solar sites.
- Perform repairs and PM’s that do not require Solar Tech skills (Signage, oil containments, fire extinguishers, labelling, electric glove rotation, Etc.)
- Deliver parts, tools, material, and vehicles.
- Operate forklift.
EDUCATION:
Required: Valid High School Diploma or valid GED
LISCENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: Class A CDL license

- Must have good writing skills and basic computer skills.
- Must have the ability and skills to learn and comply with company safe work practices, work rules, work procedures, regulations, and policies.
- Experience working in a utility and/or industrial environment is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Requires working off shifts & overtime as needed.
- Physically capable to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability climb ladders and stairs.
- Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces in a hot and dirty environment.
- Ability to work in areas of extreme noise.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc...)
- Ability to work up to 300 feet high above grade.
- Ability to walk & work on surfaces that are metal slotted grates (the ground, up to 300 feet below, is visible through the slots in the grating).
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to grasp and utilize small hand tools, including the use of pneumatic and/or electric tools, etc…
- Ability to operate company vehicles and forklifts, up to 4 to 6 hours a day in an 8-hour shift after receiving training.
- Ability to work while wearing proper personal protection equipment (PPE), for example: dust mask, hearing protection, protective eyewear, hardhat, etc…
- Must be able to work safely and comply with TECO’s safe work practices.
