POSITION CONCEPT: 
The Maintenance Specialist - Solar is responsible for advanced monitoring and troubleshooting Solar fleet resources. Access applicable software database tools and reports to ensure timely equipment remediation and return to service. Support Solar Technicians remotely where applicable, and either remotely resolve the issues, or visits the site to assist with recovery of the equipment.  Support the daily need to re-establish equipment issues supporting the correction of generation losses. Drive solar site generation improvements. Assist Solar Technicians and IT Team members with advanced-level troubleshooting and maintenance of, but not limited to, AC filter, IGBT, Inverter, component, software updates, combiner boxes, DC mapping, SCADA. Support internal engineers with root cause analysis and projects as required. Provide technical training for Solar Technicians.  Apply technical expertise to solve complex problems and provide oversight and direction of work. Optimize reliability, increased recovery times of this complex equipment beyond field capabilities.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform data analysis/root cause investigations and responds to maintenance and operations. 
  • Develop Inverter-Based, MET stations and tracking systems technical expertise and procedures within the department necessary to analyze and resolve advanced component and software issues. Acts as SME for technicians and supervisors in the field. 
  • Use secure applications to troubleshoot, investigate, repair equipment beyond field technician capabilities. 
  • Perform in field oversight of remediation efforts for advanced level asset repairs. 
  • Interfaces with OEMs for Engineering support for non-warranty issues. Coordinates with the Warranty Manager as needed for advanced equipment failure warranty claims 
  • Utilize Data Analytics software to investigate individual and large-scale network issues. Use prioritization protocol to ensure the appropriate action is taken to restore equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain downed equipment recoveries related to advanced level equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Complete required training and certification from various vendors to maintain license and maintenance platform access.  Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to include but not limited to TMEIC, SMA, Power Electronics. Procures and maintain software licenses to review data and perform initial troubleshooting. 
  • Maintain access to OEM maintenance manuals and act as a single point of contact for maintenance and operations updates/notifications/Technical Bulletins from the OEMs. Provide input for maintenance, operations, engineering organization for all improvement, reliability opportunities. 

 

EDUCATION:
Required: Valid High School Diploma or valid GED  
Preferred: Associate Degree in Engineering Technician or related field. Inverter OEM O&M/SCADA training.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 5 years of experience in solar operations and maintenance. Utility Scale solar O&M/SCADA experience. College degree may be considered in lieu of some of the required experience. 

Preferred: Root cause analysis and field supervision experience.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Sound understanding of commercial & utility scale Solar power generation, medium voltage
systems, transmission, distribution or substation principals, materials and their applications.
Working knowledge of  reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices and power generation practices used in electric utilities.  Working knowledge of work management systems in power generation. Ability to organize, lead and resolve technical and process problems.  Good project management skills, time management skills and communication skills. Some basic hand tools might be required. Ability to with advanced-level troubleshooting and maintenance of, but not limited to, AC filter, IGBT, Inverter, component, software updates, combiner boxes, DC mapping, SCADA, support internal engineers with root cause analysis and projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will be required to work in an office atmosphere and in a field setting (35%) at solar facilities. Travel will be required between multiple solar sites. Occasional weekend and overtime requirements, including holidays and on-call rotational support. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for work assigned.
  • Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to grasp/handle small hand tools and other objects with fingers and palms.
  • Must be able to pull, push, lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs. 
  • Must be physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor.
  • Normal working conditions with occasional weekend and overtime requirements, including on-call rotational support.
