Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Disclosure Statements

Title: Spring 2026 Engineering Co-Op/Parallel 
Company: Tampa Electric Company

Accountabilities: As a successful candidate for our Co-Op/Parallel – Renewables Control Center (RCC) Performance Engineering Co-Op/Parallel, you would:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive tool to track department metrics and internal performance report that justifies the impact of the Renewables Control Center (RCC).
  • Assist in the facilitation of system root cause analysis (RCA) for solar and energy storage facilities’ monitoring and control software.  
  • Assist in facilitation and tracking of resulting action plans to improve appropriate system performance.
  • Assist in document creation to support the RCC and to create standards to use as the department grows with new technologies. 
  • Support the Renewables Operations Engineer (ROE) in TEC’s alarm rationalization efforts to ensure safe and reliable operations of the renewables fleet.
  • Support the ROE in testing the monitoring and control software utilized by the Renewables System Operators (RSOs).
     

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
 
Excellent communication skills to clearly communicate ideas to all levels within the organization
Ability and desire to learn supervisory control and data acquisition software, energy management system software, work management systems in power generation and delivery
Strong project management and time management skills
Knowledge of database concepts 
 


Education/Certification/GPA:
The successful applicant should be in their second, third or fourth year of an ABET accredited university or college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in an engineer discipline.  A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program is a must.

Working Conditions
The Renewables Control Center Performance Engineering Co-Op can expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Working conditions may be both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The level of stress varies depending on workload and company deadlines.


Physical Demands/Requirement
Must be able to work in dusty and hot environments. Must be able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs. Walking (sometimes on uneven surfaces), bending and driving as needed.
