POSITION CONCEPT

The Integration Solutions Architect is responsible for leading the creation of a technology architecture framework and providing technical leadership in support of the organization’s initiatives in on-prem & cloud computing by leveraging both on-prem and cloud integration services and automation and ensuring public and private services and solutions are architected and designed optimally for cost, functionality, reliability, and resiliency. The Architect will also be responsible for implementation and delivery of the organization’s Enterprise Integration strategy along with the introduction of new emerging technologies and public cloud services, API services, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategies. The Architect will work with development teams and other stakeholders and provide architecture leadership and best practices as well as drive and enable the migration and refactoring of on-premises applications to cloud native design and deployment methodologies.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Integration Architecture, Design, and Development 
    1. Demonstrate deep subject matter leadership of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
    2. Manage the development and implementation of Integration strategy, develop the architecture governance framework, and define architecture foundations
    3. Define integration standards, DevOps, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tool chain and Standard Operating Environment (SOE)
    4. Define, implement, and enforce the Enterprise Integration standards, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Standards, Business Process Integration (BPI) standards, and associated tools/platforms/frameworks for the organization’s application portfolio, in coordination with IT-wide efforts and Technology Architecture and Planning
    5. Drive Proof-of-Concepts and implementation, with hands-on involvement as subject matter expert (SME) for new SOA items: build deployment automation pipelines, build automated next gen CI/CD pipelines partnering with development teams, build and integrate new technologies like containers enabling multi-cloud and preventing cloud provider lock-in
    6. Define and execute the Enterprise Integration  strategy for public and private cloud migrations and on-premises evolution, in alignment with overall IT strategy and directions
    7. Define and enforce Integration architecture best practices: availability; redundancy schemes, performance, Disaster Recovery, DB, and Interfacing Systems, etc.
    8. Act as a SME to the organization for the organizations on-prem and cloud end-to-end architecture, including SAP, Azure platforms, SuccessFactors, HANA API etc. networking, provisioning, and management
    9. Develop a library of deployable and documented  design patterns, based on the organization’s application portfolio, as a basis for deploying services to the cloud
    10. Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation
    11. Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc. and how they are applicable to the organizations cloud strategy and roadmap
    12. Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) and other cloud services
    13. Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks
    14. Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications and that are appropriate for business and technology strategies
    15. Communicate functionality that reliably moves messages/data among endpoints
    16. Support fundamental web and web services standards
    17. Design Functionality that dynamically binds consumer and provider endpoints Message validation, mapping, transformation, and enrichment
    18. Orchestration
    19. Support for multiple interaction patterns, content-based routing, and typed messages

 

  1. Consultation 
      1. Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment
      2. Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
      3. Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners
      4. Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with Business and Application Development to size and manage scope and risk as well as regularly communicate project health and identifies risks to project and program stakeholders, sponsors, and management
      5. Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operation

 

  1. Mentoring 
    1. Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks including mentoring on cloud standards, frameworks etc. as well as will be a key enabler of the organizations cultural change for cloud adoption
    2. Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success
    3. Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
    4. Conduct product work reviews with team members

 

  1. Thought Leadership 
    1. Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members and leaders across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements
    2. Demonstrate forward thinking around where the organization is going and how technology can support these efforts
    3. Proactively Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems

Direct Supervision:        Direct supervisory responsibility for any assigned resources and may also supervise contract resources.

                                          Responsible for resource management, staff augmentation, and vendor relationships and ensures there is adequate support for all assigned work activities.

                                          May serve as a backup to management.

 

Indirect Supervision:       Development staff and Architects

Key Internal:              IT Architects, IT Strategic Planning, Development Staff of various business application towers, Project Management Office, Other IT and Business Stakeholders etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

Required:       Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent discipline. 

Preferred:      At least one professional certification in specific job-related disciplines preferred in addition to the requirements above.

 

Direct Experience 

Required:       Minimum of 7 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position or performing duties closely related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.

Minimum of 7 years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network and storage management, software application solution architecture, design or development, middleware, database management or operations

Minimum of 3 years of experience with cloud technologies and platforms such as SAP, Tableau, SAP PI/PO, BizTalk, HANA API, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

 

Preferred:       Gas or Electric utility experience

Experience working in large public or private-sector organizations

 

Supervisory Experience

Required:       A minimum of three years supervisory or leadership experience.    

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

  • Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, business drivers and emerging computing trends
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to architectural needs

    • Establishing and managing file and object storage (SAN, NAS etc.)
    • Data archiving, backup, and disaster recovery to the cloud.
    • Building, changing, and managing cloud environments via Infrastructure as Code development.
  • Knowledge and experience with requirements gathering techniques, including information requirements, report requirements, etc.
  • Knowledge of data and application testing approaches and techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Electric Grid Solutions such as ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), EMS (Energy Management System), AMI/MDM (Advanced Metering Infrastructure/Meter Data Management), Intergraph GIS (Geographical Information System)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Gas Utility Operations solutions such as ESRI GIS, Gas SCADA, Gas Management System, Meter Reading Systems etc.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning etc.), Block Chain etc.
  • Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate how these can positively impact the Company.
