Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

Position Summary/Details:

The Safety Department within TECO is responsible for leadership and safety support of TECO team members and contractors.  The Safety Department works with business units to establish and set safety expectations; collaborates to move all TECO safety initiatives forward; provides guidance on Public Safety Programs; manages occupational safety, health, and accident prevention efforts; and advocates for a behaviorally based safety culture which in turn enables World Class Safety.

 

Accountabilities: As a successful candidate for our POSITION, you would:

  • Gather and analyze safety and health data,
  • Participate in various hazard reviews,
  • Document current process while identifying process improvements, 
  • Track project status and support completion, and
  • Join in various outreach/engagement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:

  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Engineering or Science.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a basic understanding of:

  • Safety, health, environmental, or emergency management; and/or
  • Engineering principles.

Year in School:  Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Working knowledge of MS Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams)

Physical Location of Co-op: Main location is at our Brandon location (33510).  Additional work may occur throughout the service territory.

Working Conditions: Mostly in a normal office environment, a successful candidate will visit the field approximately weekly. This will include riding in a company vehicle on-road and off-road, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering substations.
