Title: Manager Financial Planning and Analysis

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Provide Financial Performance & Analysis leadership for Peoples Gas System (“PGS”) efforts to successfully operate the gas delivery system function in a changing environment.  With direction from the Director, this position will lead short-term forecasting, analysis and reporting for TECO Gas Operations.  This includes responsibility for the PGS annual business plan processes, forecasted financial statements, facilitating communication to team members regarding financial matters, cost management and areas for improvement.  This position will provide financial support and a business perspective to assist the overall financial operation of PGS and is accountable for accurate, complete and timely financial information.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities: 

  • Short-term forecasting.  Leads the short-term forecasting process, including the annual budget and current year financial forecasts.  This responsibility includes forecasted income statement, balance sheet, and cash flows.  This also includes the current year forecast packages provided to Sr. leadership and requires strong partnership with forecast owners to coordinate the forecast process and support the leadership team in managing the business (operational, affiliate, taxes, etc.).   
  • Leads the internal monthly reporting process, including variance analysis and reporting to understand business and operational drivers.  Work with Senior leadership team, and other management to optimize financial results to meet overall company profitability goals and prepare summary materials and presentations for management.
  • Contribute to PGS analytical efforts, including development of methodologies applied in the financial evaluation of all facets of PGS corporate and regulatory reporting. Provide financial support, information and analysis to meet profitability goals.  As required, perform statistical, financial, benchmarking and pricing analyses for use in evaluating the potential financial impact of various projects, business ventures, accounting strategies/treatment and to aid in effective decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain budget and forecasting models and support company-wide financial systems and tools. 
  • Provide leadership for the function by identifying, hiring, retaining and developing high performing team members and leaders. Responsible for the creation and promotion of a climate of pride, commitment and participation among the finance teams.

 

What We’re Looking For

Must Haves:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
  • Minimum of 6 years of budgeting & forecasting, cost control and/or utility accounting experience
  • Must be a strong facilitator with excellent communication skills and financial acumen
  • Must be proficient with financial analysis techniques, including budgeting & forecasting and technical accounting concepts
  • Must be able to translate profitability, cost cutting goals and corporate initiatives into a course of action.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and extensive experience in developing budgets, business cases, and financial plans & analysis

 

Nice-to-Haves: 

  • Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or MBA 
  • CPA or other professional finance certifications 
  • More than 8 years of budgeting, forecasting, and accounting experience in a utility environment
  • At least 3 years in an electric or gas delivery budgeting & forecasting role
  • 3 years of Financial Statement budgeting and/or reporting experience.   
  • Two years of supervisory experience 
  • Proficient with SAP, BPC and PowerPlant financial systems; Knowledge of gas utility operations; A thorough understanding of utility accounting and regulatory procedures & policies.
