Shape Communications that Inform, Engage, and Connect

We're looking for an experienced Communications Strategist who combines strategic thinking with exceptional writing and content development skills. In this role, you'll help shape communications that support business objectives, strengthen stakeholder engagement, protect and enhance our reputation, and connect audiences with meaningful information. You'll partner with leaders across the organization and help bring important business initiatives to life through thoughtful communication planning and compelling storytelling.

What You'll Do

As a Communications Strategist, you'll develop and execute communications that support business goals, organizational priorities, and stakeholder engagement efforts.

 

Develop Strategic Communications Plans

  • Collaborate on communication strategies that support business objectives, organizational priorities, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and issue management.
  • Support communications related to operational initiatives, organizational change, business priorities, and emerging issues.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify communication opportunities and develop effective communication solutions.

 

Create Engaging Multi-Channel Content

Develop, write, edit, and publish communications including:

  • Employee and Executive communications, Intranet articles, Newsletters, Speeches, Presentations, Customer, Event, and Stakeholder communications, Website content, Email campaigns, Medial and social media content

 

Manage Digital Communications Channels

  • Coordinate content publishing across digital and traditional communication platforms.
  • Ensure content is accurate, accessible, timely, and aligned with company brand standards.
  • Utilize communication analytics and insights to improve engagement and communication effectiveness.
  • Manage content across websites, intranet platforms, email channels, and social media platforms.

 

Maintain Editorial Excellence

  • Ensure all communications meet company style guidelines, brand standards, and communication best practices.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure quality, consistency, and clarity.
  • Maintain high editorial and grammatical standards across all communication channels.

 

Support Media Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist with proactive and reactive communications planning, including issue management and crisis communications support.
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement and reputation management initiatives.
  • Support communication activities that strengthen relationships with employees, customers, communities, and external stakeholders.

 

Collaborate Across the Business

Work closely with teams including:

  • External Affairs, Operations, Customer Experience, Strategy, Business Development, Technology, Regulatory Affairs, Safety, Corporate and affiliate organizations

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

 

Experience

 6 years of experience in a communications role in media relations, digital marketing and communication, brand strategy, advertising, and/or extensive writing and editing. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required: Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output. Energetic, self-reliant, good problem solver and results oriented. Ability to form effective, consultative working relationships with colleagues at all levels and external stakeholders. Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management. Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines, exceptional prioritization and organizational skills. Works effectively in a lean communications environment, balancing strategic planning with day-to-day execution and content production responsibilities. 

Strategic thinking; superior project management skills; thorough knowledge of strategic communications, public relations and marketing; knowledge will encompass best practices in providing guidance for media relations and paid, owned, earned and shared channels. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Education

Advanced degree in strategic public relations, marketing, communications or journalism.

 

Experience

7 years of experience in a communications role in media relations, digital marketing and communication, brand strategy, advertising, and/or extensive writing and editing. 

Experience in developing crisis communications or critical public relations. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of the energy industry, especially natural gas utility experience. 

Familiarity with AP Style and project management.

Working Conditions

Available for on-call and after-hours work on projects and issues or crisis management. 

 

Physical Demands

Expected to travel to company events or crises, at times with minimal warning, to provide on-site
