WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Measurement Technician, under minimum supervision, is responsible for installing and maintaining residential and commercial/industrial natural gas measurement equipment, such as meters, mechanical and electronic metering instrumentation, and meter volume correctors. The Measurement Technician works in a safe manner and is responsible for following all TECO Peoples Gas Safety rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and applicable Federal, State, and local natural gas codes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Install and maintain natural gas measurement equipment such as meters, mechanical and electronic metering instrumentation, and meter volume correctors:
- Configure electronic meter volume correctors and industrial AMR units.
- Perform accuracy testing and field calibrations/repairs using specialized gas industry testing equipment.
- Plan, monitor and perform preventative maintenance as determined and scheduled during testing. Track maintenance schedules in the Work Management System (WMS).
- Perform emergency response maintenance as needed, conducting on-site troubleshooting and corrective measures.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair large commercial and industrial meters of >1400 CFH.
- Respond to industrial AMR (Automated Meter Reading) system dropped/disconnected calls, making repairs to AMR or telecommunication equipment as required.
- Complete all required calibration documentation utilizing the WMS and ensure procedures follow accepted Engineering Principles.
- Construct new facilities and install modifications to existing facilities according to PGS Engineering designs and instructions. Install meters, regulators, electronic gas measurement equipment, chromatographs and odorization systems. Supported by Division personnel for heavy equipment installs, and the ordering of supplies/parts necessary for installations.
- Replace field electronic equipment to ensure effective integration.
What We’re Looking For
Must Haves:
- A minimum of HS Diploma/GED.
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License (may require CDL) with an acceptable driving record.
- A minimum of four (4) years of natural gas operations experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- OQ qualified for the tasks assigned.
- Strong technical ability.
- Good understanding of electrical and electronic principles.
- Working knowledge of D.O.T. requirements and natural gas codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of safe gas distribution and service practices, including but not limited to: standards of pressure, dangers inherent in low/high pressures and the failure of pressure regulatory equipment.
- Computer literate and skilled in the use of a lap-top computer for work orders and training.
- Must be able to perform math functions using a calculator (add, subtract, multiply, divide, decimals, and fractions).
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to maintain high customer satisfaction through high systems availability, with timely and accurate data and minimum system downtime.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to individuals internal/external of TECO Peoples Gas.
- Knowledge of the geographic areas and with ability to read and interpret maps.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Related two-year technical college degree or equivalent is preferred and may be considered in lieu of the comparable related experience requirement.

- Must have hearing acceptable under DOT guidelines 49 CFR 391.41(b)(11).
- Must be able to independently ingress/egress and operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted. A pre-employment drug screening, as well as a background check (including education, employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre-employment screening. A physical may be conducted if required for the role.
