WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Gas Scheduling and Trading function is responsible for supporting the company’s activities in the areas of gas supply with a primary focus on the administration of gas supply and transportation activities.  Scheduling and Trading responsibilities will include the daily scheduling of gas supply and transportation on up-stream pipelines as well as the daily confirmation of gas supply scheduled to be delivered to the company’s distribution system. Responsibilities also include the daily spot gas purchasing, nominations for transportation, and the development and maintenance of daily and monthly operation reports. The position also includes the daily monitoring of market conditions, operations, and constraints on the upstream pipelines serving the company.  Performs under general supervision.

 

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities for GAS SCHEDULER: 

  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of natural gas necessary to meet the system requirements for the company’s gas distribution system and to maintain a reliable and low-cost supply of natural gas and transportation.  This includes assisting in gas scheduling, receipt point determination, transportation capacity nomination, receipt and delivery point imbalance quantities reconciliation.
  • Assists in the seasonal and annual planning of gas supply and transportation portfolio and the daily marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales or capacity release.  Serves as the back up to the Gas Trader or Senior Gas Trader in their absence.
  • Responsible for the daily monitoring and response to Operational Flow Orders, Alert Days, and Limitation Orders on the upstream pipelines and storage facilities. Closely coordinates any operational issues/concerns with gas control (internal/external).
  • Maintain knowledge of pipeline systems (FGT, Sonat, Gulfstream, Transco, SESH and Sabal Trail) and applicable storage facilities systems (Bay Gas and Southern Pines) to schedule, confirm, and monitor upstream pipeline information. Maintain working knowledge of the company’s Gas Management Systems for both on-system and off-system scheduling, confirmation, gas accounting, and reporting.
  • Preparation of daily and monthly reports including natural gas position and imbalances, market pricing, portfolio performance, ad hoc analysis, etc.
  • Coordination with accounting personnel for verification and reconciliation of natural gas and transportation capacity invoices including billing verification of quantities and prices.  Resolution of invoice/billing discrepancies.
  • Reconciliation of month-ending pipeline transportation and supply imbalances. 
  • Responsible for accurate deal entry and scheduling in the Energy Trading and Risk Management system (Allegro) to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

 

What We’re Looking For Gas Scheduler

Must Haves:  

  • Valid High School Diploma
  • Minimum of four (4) years related experience.  In lieu of experience, the following combinations of education and experience may be considered: Bachelor’s degree in a business or a related field with no experience orv Associates degree in business or a related field with a minimum of (2) years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of PC systems including database, spreadsheet, communications, and word processing software. 
  • Proficiency in the use of Internet communication systems and electronic nomination systems. 
  • Self-starter and motivated. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work closely with a team in an open trade floor environment

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study.
  • Knowledge of Gas Industries Standards Board (GISB) or North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) standards and procedures.  Knowledge of Interstate Pipeline electronic nominations processes associated with transportation nominations.

 

Additional Day-to-Day Responsibilities for GAS TRADER: 

  • Responsible for the daily or monthly marketing of upstream capacity through wholesale sales or capacity release.
  • Responsible for the purchasing and selling of gas supply including imbalances.
  • Responsible for monitoring large transportation customer activity on the company’s gas distribution system (if applicable).

 

What We’re Looking For Gas Trader

Must Haves:

  • Valid High School Diploma
  • A college degree may be considered in lieu of some experience. 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years related experience including three (3) years of natural gas industry or power trading industry experience.
  • In lieu of experience, the following combination of education and experience may be considered: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three (3) years experience, including two (2) years of natural gas trading industry or power trading industry experience; Associate’s degree in a related field with five (5) years experience including two (2) years of natural gas trading industry or power trading industry experience. 
  • Knowledge of Gas Industries Standards Board (GISB) or North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Interstate Pipeline electronic nominations processes associated with transportation nominations. 
  • Ability to analyze portfolio and market conditions while executing favorable transactions for the company.
  • Ability to make quick decisions while under pressure.  Sound judgement.

 

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study.
  • Three or more years commodity trading experience.
  • Knowledge of trading tools and indices (OTC, NYMEX).

Working Conditions for both:

Often required to be on-call over weekends and holidays to monitor and maintain system.  Storm duties may require offsite relocation (including overnights) during and after a storm.

 

The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted. A pre-employment drug screening, as well as a background check (including education, employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre-employment screening. A physical may be conducted if required for the role.
