This senior level engineering position provides leadership and technical support to a reliability team, station technical team and project team that supports various capital projects, repairs, inspections, technical studies and maintenance strategy and asset management for all Boilers, HRSGs, Pressure Vessels and high Energy Piping covered by ASME/ANSI/NBIC codes at all TECO Energy Generating facilities.

 

The primary function supporting AM process is to develop, implement and execute processes to inform a known state of plant equipment and facilitate the development of recommendations to lower risk.  This position is responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of standardized best practices thru fleetwide reliability teams. 
This role shall be a focal point for specific engineering skills and able to analyze and resolve complex issues. This position should be involved in power industry committees (such as ASME, HRSG group, etc.) to continue his expertise and develop new ways of treating new and old problems and issues. This position should be considered a company expert in industry codes (ASME/ANSI, NFPA, API, AMCA, etc.), Boilers/HRSGs, Pressure Vessels, and High Energy (HE)Piping. 


*Engineer classification is multi-level, based on the qualification guidelines as outlined in the Company’s Engineering Career Path, Administrative Policy 2.13. A minimum classification of an Engineer III (or Senior Engineer) is required in this position.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Provide technical support to OP&M team, station teams and construction teams on capital, O&M and repair projects from initiation to closeout This includes design, estimating, document review, material procurement, inspections, field and shop QA/QC and commissioning. 


2.    Establish a continuous collaborative reliability management process for Boiler/HRSG/HE Piping systems which involves the development of mechanical system Asset Criticality, failure mechanism Monitoring Plan, Health Indicators/Policy, Asset Risk Dashboard and Recommendation Management.


3.    Develop and facilitate coordinated implementation of a fleetwide predictive monitoring program which supports our Asset Class Monitoring plans.  Drive the continuous improvement and optimization in the effectiveness and cost of the monitoring plans thru replacement of time-based maintenance with predictive maintenance and the use of innovative monitoring technologies.


4.    Facilitates the development and management of Recommendations for improvement of mechanical asset Maintenance Strategy, e.g. capital projects, outages, operational limitations, monitoring and analysis of asset condition (non-destructive and other inspection and sampling).


5.    Collaboratively develop, maintain and audit standards, Quality Processes, and procedures associated with Boiler/HRSGs/HE Piping assets and associated mechanical system assets.


6.    Facilitate root cause analysis, tracking of reliability metrics for mechanical system assets, management of change including the evaluation of changes to mechanical systems, benchmarking and the tracking of functional performance and condition of mechanical systems.


7.    Facilitate the development, implementation and use of operational and information systems to support the mechanical system reliability process.

Direct Supervision:       Team of Engineers (multi-disciplines), technical staff and Coops. 
Indirect Supervision:     Contract Engineers/Consultants, Craft, plant engineers/technicians

 

RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal:   ES and ED team members including Vice Presidents, directors, managers, engineers, technicians 
Key External: Consultants, Contractors, Government and/or Regulatory Agencies, Industry Associations, Vendors, Manufacturers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education 
Required:    Minimum of Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college. 
Preferred: Master’s degree in engineering or engineering management.     

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Required:  Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida

 

Direct Experience 

Engineer III  Experience

Required:   Minimum of 8 years of experience as an Engineer performing work related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.

 

Senior Consulting Engineer

Required:   Minimum of 12 years of experience as an Engineer performing work related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position

 

Engineering Fellow

Required:   Minimum of 16 years of experience as an Engineer performing work related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position


Preferred:    16 years heavy industrial/power plant engineering/maintenance experience.

 

Supervisory Experience 
Required:    Three years of supervisor experience
Preferred:    Five years of engineering supervision

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Working knowledge of mechanical system design(power plant codes and standards), operation, and maintenance.  This position requires a strong understanding of power generation principals, work practices and associated materials.  In addition, this position requires the ability to organize, lead and resolve technical and process problems. The ability to effectively lead and motivate individuals to meet organization goals and personal development needs is required.  Good project management skills, time management skills and communication skills are required.   

Preferred:    Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and work procedures. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office.

WORKING CONDITIONS 
•    Travel (national/international) – up to 10%.  Travel from home office to Big Bend, Bayside and Polk Power Stations expected and could be frequent.
•    Working outdoors in hot, humid, wet and/or cold conditions 10% to 20% of the work day.
•    Working in a Power Generation facility requiring proper PPE.
•    Working in areas of elevated noise, heights and confined spaces.
•    Some overtime (weekends and holidays) as required.
•    Occasional “On Call” availability.

•    This position requires climbing stairs and scaffolding, utilizing safety harnesses, ability to stand and walk for extended period of time, working in noise, dust and high humidity areas while utilizing personnel protection equipment.
