Compressor Tech/Senior Compressor Tech

This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday, August 25, 2025.

 

The Compressor Tech position pays between $54,720.00 to $68,400.00 and the Senior Compressor Tech pays between $63,440 to $79,300. Placement in any level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures continuous supply of natural gas to customers by responding to transmission changes within the area of responsibility.
  • Operates centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, ancillary equipment including electrical generators, pumps, water purification systems, filters, valves, measurement devices, coolers, and fans to meet system and off-system supply needs efficiently and safely.
  • Performs preventative and general maintenance on centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, electronic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Maintains, modifies, and troubleshoots Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor control systems, end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, lighting systems, variable frequency drives, air/fuel controllers and complex equipment associated with gas reciprocating engines, gas turbines and generators. 
  • Operates and monitors process control systems, vibration monitoring systems, fire and gas detection systems, station emergency shutdown systems and compressor control systems. 
  • Assists in data collection, documentation, maintaining records, and producing reports on work completed for Company, industry, and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs facility maintenance and inspections by identifying and scheduling work, coordinating materials and supplies, performing maintenance and inspections, documenting work completion, and performing trend analysis to improve efficiency.
  • Assists in installing conduit, instrumentation, and electrical components safely. 

*Senior Level: Entry Level Duties Plus Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Successful Candidate Must Have:
  • A high School diploma or GED 
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Compressor Tech: 1 year of experience in compressor operations, engine, generator, turbine mechanics or electronics troubleshooting and repair. Satisfactory completion of NMGC Operator Qualifications (OQs) within six (6) months 
  • Senior Compressor Tech: 4 years of experience in compressor operations, engine, generator, turbine mechanics or electronics troubleshooting and repair. Must hold and maintain all the required NMGC Operator Qualifications.
  • Preferences: Experience of Delta V, Murphy, and Allen Bradley Control Systems

 

Working Conditions 
Office, Warehouse & Compressor station indoor/outdoor environment. Must be available for callout 24/7 and emergency response to include working weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule. Available to fill in Gas Control if/when needed. Will be exposed to extreme heat or cold, ambient temps. -40 degrees to +115 degrees Fahrenheit, and engine temperatures can exceed 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. Will experience exposure to high noise levels < 110 decibels. Working with electrical voltages up to 480 volts AC. Will be exposed to outdoor elements, approximately 75% of the time. Often work alone in remote locations. Personal protective equipment needed. Manual dexterity is required to lift 50 lbs., manually transport a load up to 50 lbs., and apply up to 600-foot lbs. of torque. Regularly required to stand and walk with the ability to bend, twist, balance, and climb. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and natural gas in certain situations. Ability to apply fine dexterity and visually inspect fine print to adjust controls and settings in a mechanical environment.
