Manager, Compensation & Benefits

The Manager, Compensation & Benefits position pays between $125,600 and $157,000, and placement is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate. 

 

About This Opportunity

New Mexico Gas Company is seeking an experienced Manager of Compensation & Benefits to lead the design, implementation, and administration of our comprehensive total rewards programs. In this role you will have the opportunity to shape and enhance total rewards strategy and lead a team that delivers exceptional service to our employees while ensuring our total rewards program is competitive, compliant, aligned with organizational goals and promotes employee engagement and retention.

 

The ideal candidate has a collaborative and forward-thinking mindset, deep expertise in compensation structures, benefits management, data analytics, and regulatory compliance, along with strong leadership and communication skills.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compensation 
    • Manage the implementation and administration of compensation and total rewards programs, including salary structures, incentive and bonus plans, market benchmarking, and salary surveys to ensure competitive positioning.
    • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, pay and promotion decisions while maintaining job descriptions, job classifications, organizational structures, pay grades, and compensation policies to ensure internal equity and external market competitiveness across all roles.
  • Benefits Administration
    • Manage the administration and continuous improvement of comprehensive employee benefits and wellness programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement, leave, and wellbeing offerings, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and workforce needs.
    • Lead vendor management, invoice reconciliation, contract negotiations, and renewal processes while overseeing annual open enrollment, employee communications, and benefits education to maximize program value, engagement, and employee experience.
  • Compliance & Governance
    • Oversee weekly, monthly and annual audits and maintain accurate documentation of policies, procedures, and reporting requirements while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws (e.g., FLSA, ERISA, ACA, HWA, FMLA, ADA)
    • Monitor changes in legislation and adjust programs accordingly
  • Analytics & Reporting
    • Analyze compensation and benefits data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities and prepare reports and dashboards for executive leadership
    • Support budgeting and forecasting related to total rewards programs
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Ensure alignment with leadership and finance on compensation and benefits strategies
    • Lead and develop a team of 2-4 HR professionals

 

Successful Candidate Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
  • A valid Driver's License
  • Eight (8) years of progressive Human Resources management experience, including at least five (5) years of direct experience administering compensation and benefits programs
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Preferences:
    • Master's degree
    • One or more of the following: PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SHRM-CP/SCP, CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CBP (Certified Benefits Professional), or other HR-related professional certification(s)
    • Experience in managing benefits administration, compensation frameworks and job evaluation methodologies
    • Experience with HRIS systems and compensation tools

 

Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Occasional field visits where travel is required. Field visits may require personal protective equipment, including but not limitied to: safety glasses, puncture resistant boots, hard hat. May be required to work overtime and weekends, depending on business need.
