This position pays between $163,200.00 to $204,000.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs the income tax function to ensure that returns, reports and inquiries  are compliant and filed in a timely and efficient manner, including federal and state income tax returns.  Provides technical support and guidance, as necessary, for non-income-tax financial matters. 
  • Directs the monthly and annual tax provision process, including effective tax rate analysis, tax basis balance sheet, preparation of the income tax footnote, and support of the financial audit by independent auditors. 
  • Directs forecasting and accounting for income taxes, including incorporation into the Company’s rate-related applications. Maintains long-term tax projections and cash tax forecast models.
  • Oversees the preparation of tax data for rate proceedings, including responses to data requests and interrogatories.
  • Responsible for tax planning related to sales, mergers, and acquisitions and new business development opportunities, as needed. 
  • Responsible for data requests and the coordination of income tax return audits conducted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state taxing authorities.   Serves as the first point of contact for offensive and defensive income tax controversy management. Acts as a representative of the Company in complying with examining agents’ requests for income tax records and other information.  
  • Manages tax risks by ensuring proper design, operation and maintenance of internal controls. Develops the tax technology vision to improve the efficiency of the tax department and supports the testing and implementation of technology systems. Responsible for the Tax Department budget. 
  • Leads the research and monitoring of issues and changes in accounting for income taxes, including the analysis and evaluation of proposed tax law changes to ensure compliance with applicable requirements. Serves as the Company’s subject matter expert on income taxes, including serving as an expert witness in rate-related and other litigation matters. 

 

Successful Candidate Must Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation and a CPA license; or 
  • A Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, or a Juris Doctor (JD) with a concentration in Taxation and a preference for a CPA license
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • 10 years of direct work experience performing the duties & responsibilities substantially similar to those of this position. Experience in regulated utility industry including regulatory accounting under Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 980.       
  • 5 years of supervisory experience


Working Conditions 
Office Environment. Ability to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time. Good vision and ability to adjust focus is required. Manual dexterity is required. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Requires the use of fine dexterity to perform computer functions.
