POSITION CONCEPT

Provides Tampa Electric Company (TEC) Right-of-Way (ROW) maintenance support to the Line Clearance and Transmission Operations organizations.  Responsible for patrolling all transmission circuits and executing the work necessary to maintain proper access to all ROWs.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for patrolling TEC 230 kV and 138kV ROW corridors twice annually.  Patrol all 69kV ROW corridors once annually.  Identify all vegetation-related conditions including tree trimming, mowing, and herbicide application.  Work directly with the Line Clearance Arborist to assess work priorities and contractor work assignments.  In conjunction with patrolling TEC ROWs, performs visual inspection for deficiencies including poles, insulators, switches, conductors, static wire and grounding provisions, cross-arms, guying, hardware and encroachment.
  • Identify installation, repair and replacement requirements to provide and maintain access to transmission ROWs to include, but not limited to, providing for the installation, repair and replacement of fences, gates, culverts, bridges and roads. Coordination with Environmental Planning, Real Estate, and other TEC departments and outside agencies is necessary. Responsible for the weekly verification of invoices for accuracy of reporting labor and equipment hours and rates.
  • Preview work orders and evaluate line clearance needs associated with new line extension projects, including the development of specifications, contractor selection, providing permit information to engineering and environmental departments, interface with TEC Project Leaders and subsequent coordination of the clearing, tree trimming and restoration activities through to the completion of the construction.
  • Provide for the fencing of ROWs to limit access by the public. Fencing will be installed as required by the Real Estate, Environmental Planning and Legal departments.
  • Oversee TEC’s compliance with regulations for both the maintenance of existing and in the clearing for new construction of the transmission system. Remain updated on environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate as the Line Clearance representative on the Land Use Committee; meet each month, and more frequently as may be necessary, with the committee.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education           

Required:            High School Diploma

 

Experience 

Direct Experience
Required:            A minimum of 8 years demonstrated work experience in utility line clearance and right-of-way management or in Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering/Operations is required. 

Preferred:           Utility line clearance experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Preferred:           Demonstrated knowledge of TEC’s customer information systems, and work management (WorkPro) and mapping (GIS) systems. Familiarity with TEC’s transmission and distribution construction, General Rules & Specifications, accounting charge number system, and budgeting.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to work overtime as required and be available for emergency call-out to support electric service restoration;  Frequent outdoor work, including walking and driving in off-road terrain and diverse field conditions; Infrequently, will work in energized areas.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work on a daily/regular basis in diverse field conditions, walk in rough terrain, tolerate exposure to the outdoor elements and wear Personal Protective Equipment; Periodically, must lift objects up to 50lbs.
