This position typically pays between $68,636  to $114,394 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.



POSITION CONCEPT:  The Technologist Distributed Energy will act as the primary resource for all company matters related to distributed generation, renewable energy and energy storage projects and business opportunities and other related special projects.  Responsible for carrying out complex and novel assignments requiring techniques and analysis of business implications including business development.



·  Lead engineering projects or studies as assigned in accordance with all applicable project procedures including cost, schedule and quality.  Responsible for the preparation and/or review of engineering designs and specifications for renewable energy and energy storage projects in addition to special projects.

·  Independently develop feasibility studies, evaluate alternatives, develop strategic plans, evaluate business opportunities and can make presentations to senior management, both inside and outside Tampa Electric Company for appropriate action. 

·   Interface with other departments in TECO Energy relative to the economic feasibility, strategic impact and regulatory consequences of projects.  Provide technical expertise as required.  Provide consultation and guidance for renewable and storage projects and other department personnel in technical matters as related to equipment design, materials and operating characteristics for existing and new renewable energy and energy storage projects.

·  Give regulatory or expert witness testimony and/or make presentations to the public on the subject matter.

·  Monitor and interface with those areas of technology and research and development sponsored by private and public organizations especially outside of the company, which are devoted to improving renewable energy and energy storage technical and economic performance.

·  Develop and implement monitoring protocols for operational renewable energy and energy storage installations.



*Candidates may qualify in this multi-graded position as Technologist I and higher based upon skills, experience and education. Consideration for higher level position will require more experience directly related to the duties of the job in addition to meeting more of the preferred qualifications and requires more independent judgment, accountability and oversight, leadership and/or subject matter expertise in performance of this position.


Education & Licenses/Certifications


Required:            Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution, or a engineering degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program.


Preferred:           Masters degree in a related area of study. Professional Engineer License or eligibility to become PE in the State of Florida. Professional certifications related to this position




Required:            Minimum of 4 years of power generation experience.



·         Additional years of power generation experience. 

·         Experience related to distributed and storage energy engineering design, energy storage, operations, maintenance, or engineering in progressively more responsible positions strongly preferred. 

·         Direct experience performing these duties & responsibilities at an electric utility.

·         Experience supervising professional and technical staff is desirable.

Required:            Strong knowledge and/or ability to learn of cost, engineering, design, technology, and performance aspects of distributed and storage energy generating equipment and processes.  Solid understanding of Energy Supply business practices including contracts, budgeting, staffing, and resource planning.

Primarily office environment. Includes occasional walk downs of generating equipment at plant locations



Primarily office tasks required. Infrequent walking, bending and climbing. Frequent driving between project locations.
