POSITION CONCEPT

The Technical Trainer develops, schedules, and facilitates skills-based and compliance training programs for Peoples Gas operations. Serves as a mentor for technical skills development and facilitates ongoing development feedback with performance coaches. Works independently on routine assignments. May either assist Supervisor or Manager with, or seek guidance on, handling projects of a developmental nature.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilitate operations skills-based training courses in both classroom and field settings, adjusting lesson plans accordingly and as needed.  Coach performance, mentor and develop technical skills and appropriate behaviors; communicate department policies and work rules; monitor trainees to ensure compliance with Safe Work Practices; and provide trainee performance feedback to performance coaches for ongoing trainee development. Assist in scheduling and developing training. (40%)
  2. Effectively facilitate compliance and regulatory training, safety awareness training and job procedures for team members and external contractors. (10%)
  3. Update technical information to ensure that training materials reflect current work methods and regulatory requirements. (10%)
  4. Ensure that proper tools, equipment, and techniques are used to perform all work in an efficient and safe manner.  Ensure that all tools and equipment are appropriately inspected and properly maintained to promote safety and efficiency at all times. (10%)
  5. Research and evaluate new industry products, programs and technologies as appropriate. (10%)
  6. Participate on company committees as appropriate. (10%)
  7. Assists with the development and revision of company policies, procedures and training programs related to pipeline construction, operations and maintenance activities. (10%)
  8. All other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION

Direct Supervision:         No direct supervision.

Indirect Supervision:      During training, provide leadership, oversight and performance assessments to all levels of craft employees

RELATIONSHIPS

Key Internal:     Must interact with all levels of Peoples Gas Management as well as personnel within Peoples Gas Operating areas.   

Key External:     Must interact with new process vendors. Interaction with industry associations, regulatory agencies and other utility trainers is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:           High school diploma or GED required. 

Preferred:          Advanced education preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Required:           Must have valid Florida driver’s license /

Preferred:          Expected to obtain certifications from various Train the Trainer endorsements.

Direct Experience

Required:           Minimum seven years of technical related natural gas industry operations experience in progressively more complex assignments and utilizing leadership skills in providing guidance and assessment of team members work processes. 

Preferred:          Experience in technical training or involvement with Safety or Safety committees.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:

  • Proficient computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • Presentation and communication skills are essential to effectively deliver classroom and field instruction and to assist with maintenance of standard operating procedures and training programs and internal and external communications.
  • Demonstrated strong team leadership in mentoring/guiding others in operative processes, procedures and technical methods and skills through clear communication, resourcefulness, effective delivery and influence, with proven credibility through confidence and competence in subject matter.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of gas distribution practices, standard of pressure and gas quality, and understand the danger inherent in low pressures and the failure of pressure regulatory equipment to maintain a standard of gas quality.

Preferred:

  • Extensive knowledge of safe work practices, job procedures, and ASME covered tasks. 
  • Advanced knowledge and technical proficiency in both Service and Distribution areas. 
  • Functional knowledge of Peoples Gas related utility mapping systems and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Peoples Gas Construction Standards and Job Procedures, materials, tools and equipment pertaining to Pipeline Operations construction and maintenance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Overtime is occasional for Storm Response and class preparation; Moderate Level of Stress;

50% Office environment and 50% Outdoor environment
