Accountabilities:

 

This position is responsible for preparing all aspects of the income tax function for the Regulated Utility, including the maintenance of regulatory plant assets within PowerTax to calculate all required methods of tax depreciation and track book/tax basis differences and deferred taxes. 

 

  • Prepare workpapers, returns and schedules related to the income tax function for the Regulated Utility.  This includes monthly tax provisions, annual tax return true ups, annual FAS 109 tax basis balance sheet analysis, preparation of tax budgets, forecasts, 5-year strategic plan and related variances tax accounts analyses

 

  • Review, organize and prepare plant data for input into the PowerTax fixed asset system.  This responsibility involves the vintaging of additions, book/tax differences, cost of removal, salvage, retirements and adjustments.  Prepare the PowerTax database to properly calculate all vintage data for federal, state, AMT and ACE depreciation.

 

  • Prepare depreciation forecasts and related deferred tax balances for budgetary and regulatory purposes.  Prepare updates based on changing scenarios and assumptions as necessary.

 

  • Review tax depreciation and deferred balances prepared by Regulatory for long term model for accuracy and reasonableness.

 

  • Maintain PowerTax system to provide accurate and timely deferred tax balances.  Provide all support for FAS 109 entries.

 

  • Prepare estimates of regular tax, AMT and ACE depreciation and gains or loss for federal and state estimated tax purposes, as well as for various planning scenarios 

 

  • Responsible to prepare all tax requests related to regulatory activities, including retail and wholesale rate case filings, FERC requests and any other special regulatory filings which require tax input.

 

 

 

Competencies, Education and Experience

 

Education

Required:   Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in Accounting and/or Finance required. 

 

Preferred:  CPA and/or advanced degree in taxation preferred.

 

 

Experience 

Direct Experience

Required:   Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position. Energy industry experience is required.  Experience with Power Tax Fixed asset module is required.    

 

 

Preferred:    Experience with Power Plan provision module, software systems such as SAP

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to navigate in a computer intensive environment:  proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, One Source Tax return software.
  • Ability to proactively identify, drive, and implement process improvements that promote risk management, streamline activities, and enhance transparency in tax work streams. Proficiency in FERC accounting
  • Strong knowledge of tax law and Accounting for Income Tax principles
  • Possess strong attention to detail.  Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment. 
  • Effectively exercise judgement while working independently and effectively coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties independently

 

Preferred:          Knowledge of Checkpoint research platform
