Supervisor, Damage Prevention & Public Awareness

 

**Candidate may work anywhere in the state of Florida, where a PGS location is within vicinity. Do not have to reside in Tampa**

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Corporate, fast paced environment; Considerable travel to regional operations required. In support of operations, the Damage Prevention & Public Awareness Programs this position will require overnight travel. The duration will depend on the needs of the local operations, industry meetings and the upcoming training scheduled; will likely exceed 30 overnight stays per year.

 

POSITION CONCEPT
Administers the company’s Damage Prevention and Public Awareness Programs including related training and public gas pipeline safety education; This position develops the Public Awareness and Damage Prevention Program, policies and procedures, and advises and supports the local divisions and regional territories in implementation of these programs. Acts as a liaison between the TECO Claims department and the third-party collection agencies and attorneys, and serves as the administrator for the TECO Peoples Gas ticket management and the leak reporting systems.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (D&R)

  • Responsible for the Damage Prevention and Public Awareness Programs and related activities. Recommends policy and procedures related to locating of facilities and safety issues for protection of the gas system. Ensures company’s compliance with federally mandated Public Awareness Program- RP1162. Develops and manages programs to educate customers, the public, first responders, public officials and contractors on damage prevention, gas hazards and how to properly respond to gas emergencies. Monitors and identifies types and frequency of damage to company’s underground facilities, and actively recommends and promotes enhancements to reduce pipeline damages. Completes trend analysis as required and assists in investigating major gas incidents that involve line locates. 
  • Provides leadership and training for the Pipeline Damage Prevention staff, including supervising the work of the One Call Work Coordinators and Damage Prevention Specialist. Prepares and administers performance evaluations. Manages the TECO Peoples Gas cross-divisional companywide Damage Prevention Team.
  • Travels to field/regional and non-PGS locations to lead damage prevention activities and deliver gas pipeline safety presentations. Provides centralized support, oversight and guidance to ensure company-wide consistency of pipeline damage documentation and invoicing practices. Develops and communicates new and updated processes and procedures. Attends contractor and industry associations to promote damage prevention. 
  • Assists PGS legal entities in the documentations discovery of 3rd party damages prior to litigation. Serves as the TECO Peoples Gas representative for depositions involving questions on the accounting on the damage billing. 
  • Assist One Call Work Coordinators with statewide coverage and backup, as needed. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Business or related field required.  In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, 6 additional years of related wok experience can be substituted.

 

Licenses/Certifications
Required:
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and safe driving record

 

Related Experience
Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience related to the duties & responsibilities of this position is required. (Related experience consists of: business analysis, process improvement, supervisory or project leadership, and/or cost control experience in a natural gas utility environment.)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of frequent use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 10 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is preferred. Previous supervisory or project leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous use of MS Access databases. 
  • Supervisory experience of a distributed work group preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required:

  • Must be knowledgeable about the products, market conditions, competitive activities, and promotional trends in the natural gas industry. Must have strong analytical skills, the ability to form valuable conclusions and recommendations, and effectively manage data through a proficient use of Microsoft Excel, or similar spreadsheet application.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and adaptability to work both independently and in a team environment. Must have demonstrated skills necessary to lead and/or positively influence others and to successfully handle and/or supervise multiple projects at one time. 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of facility damage and damage prevention, policies and/or procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local Damage Prevention Laws.
  • Advanced skill level in MS Excel.
