POSITION CONCEPT
The System Engineer is responsible for establishing a high standard of service to all customers by maintaining and improving the reliability and compliance of the lighting systems the within the service area that TEC assumes ownership of, and for the utilization of sound engineering practices to determine the most efficient, cost-effective engineering design and value proposition is provided to serve Customer needs. This leadership role is responsible for the value proposition put forth to customer to growth the lighting business.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensure existing, acquired, or constructed lighting systems meet the Tampa Electric operating, maintenance, and technological standards as well as compliance with applicable roadway standards and local ordinances.
2. Work with assigned account representatives, Customer Care, Business Development, Lighting, System Service and others to respond to new service opportunities and resolve customer complaints.
3. Respond to customer complaints filed with the Florida Public Service Commission and all other customer complaints within three days.
4. Perform feasibility assessments and market viability of new lighting, data, and smart city products.
5. Ensure the optimal value proposition is provided to customers while also assuring TEC profitability for acquired lighting systems by defining key technical, financial, or informational elements to support both the customer and TEC business case(s): determining useful life of customer owned lighting systems, determination of existing reliability issues, assessment of code compliance, maintainability, and any other relevant consideration.
6. Provide technical assistance to System Service, Lighting & line department. Communicate lighting circuit priorities and Energy Delivery System Restoration Plans. Assist with prioritizing customer storm restoration.
7. Engineer acquisition and construction work requests. Miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal: ED management, all Energy Delivery departments, Account Management, Community Relations, Legal, Contracts, IT and various other departments within the Company.
Key External: Customers, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, electricians, other utilities, governmental agencies, and other parties outside TEC.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Licenses/Certifications
Required: Florida State driver’s license; Distribution Safety Course to open energized equipment
Preferred: Professional Engineer License (PE)
LEVEL: Sr. Engineer
Scope of Position: Will independently performs routine and complex engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks; independently performs tasks on new aspects of non-routine assignments; using prescribed or developed methods; Will have responsibility for training, orientation or assigning of work to other employees in a leadership capacity; will schedule/coordinate projects, will establish and make efficient processes to determine useful life analysis, define acquisition offers, and ancillary scopes of work for lighting systems prepare engineering analyses, write specifications and reports as directed or based upon business need.
Experience
Required: Minimum of 8 years of engineering work experience related to performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of assignments involving construction and design of electrically energized systems in the ROW. Minimum of 2 years of experience in planning and engineering business technology requirements and system implementations, leading large projects and providing technical direction to team members.
Preferred: Electrical engineering experience, FDOT/municipal roadway lighting or signage construction or maintenance experience, Experience designing roadway lighting photometrics. Utility Operations Experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required: Advanced knowledge of electrical ROW assets, systems, and related engineering, construction, and code design practices and compliance. Demonstrated knowledge of GIS. Demonstrated understanding of computer platforms and technology implementation methods; Demonstrated ability to assimilate new, complex technical applications for applicability and implemented on an electric delivery system; Demonstrated analytical, planning and project leadership skills with the ability to lead large technical projects; Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams (without direct supervision); Must be able to establish and maintain a good working relationship with all levels of company personnel, suppliers and customers.
Preferred: Understanding of lighting photometric standards and various hardware components.
