POSITION CONCEPT

Represents Tampa Electric Company (TEC) in providing outdoor lighting service that is in the best interest of both the Customer and the Company.  This position supervises the activities of all internal and external Service Area’s Lighting Field Engineering Technicians (LFET) required to design and engineer additions and modifications to the outdoor lighting distribution system that serves new and existing customers in the service areas, while ensuring they meet the applicable codes, regulatory requirements, and company standards. Serves as main point of contact to coordinate lighting design and engineering activities related to developing, qualifying, and satisfying residential customers, commercial customers, internal and external contractors, and all governmental agencies.  Provides support for day-to-day operation activities involved in the maintenance of current customers and contracts. Provides the leadership necessary to ensure the vision, mission, and goals of Electric Delivery’s LFETs are aligned with TEC’s corporate objectives.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensures that all work is performed according to Safe Work Practices. Conducts proactive safety activities such as safety observations and, as needed, coaches’ employees to ensure they follow current safety procedures. Ensures that all standard rules and specificiatoins are used to plan the most electrically efficient and cost-effective designs for new and existing lighting customers.  Communicates safety expectations, recognizes safety achievement, and reviews safety statistics monthly. Supports Safety Committee activities and Electric Delivery safety efforts.
  • Responsible for directing internal and external Lighting Field Engineering Technicians (LFETs) to design and engineer additions and modifications to the outdoor lighting distribution system that serves new and existing customers, while ensuring applicable codes, regulatory requirements, proper financials, and company standards are met. This involves the application of sound engineering practices, addressing customer priorities and in-service dates, verifying material and labor values, coordinating, and forecasting projects, and negotiating deliverable expectations. Ensure customer satisfaction with the installation of lighting and distribution facilities.  Responsible for the resolution to PSC complaints.
  • Administration of the Bright Choices TM Agreement as well as the establishment of customer billing and street/area light inventory in accordance with the Florida legislative and tariff requirements.
  • Mentor direct reports in negotiations, project management coordination, planning and scheduling coordination, billing accuracy, engineering design, and construction aspects related to new and existing outdoor lighting customers impacting TEC’s lighting and distribution system. Directly responsible for the training process for new LFET's and all refresher training required. Provides development opportunities and job site assistance to complement the LFET portion of the Distribution Design Technican Training Program. 
  • Support Manager with development and maintenance of the Lighting Department’s Capital and O&M budgets with associated metrics in addition to payroll administration. 

 

SUPERVISION

Direct Supervision:            Team of Lighting Field Engineering Technicians

 

 

EDUCATION, (LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS):
(Degree must be in accordance with TECO’s education policy)

Required:    High School Diploma

Preferred:   Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university

 

EXPERIENCE:

Required:  Minimum of eight years of related work experience in progressively more complex technical assignments.  Applicable college degree may be considered in lieu of direct/related experience

Preferred: Completion of First Line Supervisory Training Classes or similar supervisory training and experience as a Lead Distribution Design Technician. 

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required:  Must have demonstrated ability to function successfully within the team environment, consistent positive leadership, and initiative skills.  Must have advanced knowledge of functional area of work and technical concepts and demonstrated ability in performing highly technical, complex assignments and designs with minimal direction.   Must have sustained above average performance with the ability and potential for assuming greater responsibility.  Must have ability to learn Lighting Field Engineering, specifically (IES, and any other proficiency needed, Sunbiz, etc.).  Must learn to be the subject matter expert on outdoor lighting to negotiate with all customers and governmental agencies. Must have sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems. Must be able to train others in staff and other departments on various aspects of processes and procedures.

The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted.
