BUSINESS STRATEGY ANALYST / SR ANALYST

Progression from Analyst to Senior Analyst is distinguished by years of experience, and degree of independence, complexity, and leadership of work initiatives / deliverables. 

 

POSITION CONCEPT

The overall objective of the position is to enhance and strengthen the company’s strategic planning and implementation for Tampa Electric, and to ensure our strategy and business operations are advanced via regulatory and legislative policies at the federal, state, and local levels. Support of these efforts includes working collaboratively across the company, coordinating and assisting cross functional teams to identify, prioritize and communicate key strategy and policy issues through relevant research, analysis and reporting. Provides support for the company’s sustainability efforts, new product and service development, and innovation strategies.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

With high level direction and supervision, works independently to research, analyze, develop, document and communicate strategy and policy insights.  Leads specific work assignments and projects, including the information collection and reporting process related to corporate sustainability and disclosure. Proactively monitors, and reports on utility industry policy and regulatory trends.  Proactively connects issues as they surface in various ways across the business operation, performs root cause analyses, gap assessments and develops recommendations.  Applies facilitation skills for meetings including preparation of pre-reads, agenda, purpose and objectives, and communicates highlights and action items.  Plays a significant role in communication (written and oral) of issue analysis or recommendations, training, orientation, assigning work, reviewing and supervising other employees; may receive assistance and/or guidance on unusual problems; may have limited authority for performing work on an individual basis with quasi-supervisory responsibility over other employees as may be assigned; prepare economic, financial and data analysis and reports on an independent basis. 

 

  1. Strategy Planning and Analysis: Independently researches industry trends and external drivers and signposts, other utility actions to analyze impacts and implications to Tampa Electric.  Takes the analysis and compares it to internal performance, goals and plans to develop new strategies or modify current strategies within the Tampa Electric strategic plan, operational business plan or roadmaps. Supports corporate strategy planning and implementation life cycle including external scan, internal analysis, strategy development, facilitated discussions with management, oral and written presentation, communication, tracking and reporting of strategic plan and/or strategic initiatives. 

 

  1. Energy Policy: Analyzes key strategies to determine where policy support is required to advance Tampa Electric strategic priorities. Establishing and maintaining alignment between Federal and state legislative and regulatory policy and business strategy by coordinating issue analysis, white paper development and position statements.  Provides analysis and support reviewing state and federal legislative and regulatory activities affecting Tampa Electric to determine opportunity windows to drive change.  Coordinates and assists in cross functional teams with the purpose of evaluating the convergence of emerging energy policy issues and implication to our business strategy or operations.

 

  1. Sustainability: Supports the coordination, compilation and review of data requests for the annual Emera Sustainability Report including establishing processes and project milestones and tracking their completion. Supports the development and implementation of sustainability data collection and reporting processes. Provides guidance across Tampa Electric on sustainability data requirement reporting and ensures adherence to reporting deadlines. Assists in data consolidation through effective data management techniques including accurate recordkeeping, database management and data integrity protocols.

 

  1. Communication: Assists in the development and coordinates implementation of a strategy communication plan of our business strategy including awareness and education campaigns, and team member outreach through multiple channels including TECO 101, ComCentral blogs or podcasts, departmental meetings, and online (intranet) communications. Memorialize strategy, policy and sustainability deliverables and promotes awareness of the publications and efforts. Establishes and maintain effective communications to translate the advancement of our business strategy to the desired external policy or regulation in concise and straightforward business language. Establish relationships with internal stakeholders, federal, state, and local agencies, and organizations to communicate the company’s activities and position on energy policy concerns.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

Required: Minimum bachelor’s degree in either accounting, finance, economics, engineering or business.  

Preferred: Graduate level business degree from an accredited university

 

Related Experience

Required:  Minimum of three (3) for Analyst level, six (6) years for Senior analyst level,  relevant work experience in utility business operations, planning, or support functions, with strong understanding of regulated electric utility financial and regulatory business model.

 

Preferred:      Leadership of cross functional teams, initiatives/projects; Experience with project management or process improvement initiatives, meeting facilitation and presentation experience, data and financial analysis and visualization experience.

  • Proficient with financial and data analysis and use of MS Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint
