TITLE: SAP Time and Pay Solution Architect - IT

POSITION CONCEPT
The SAP Time and Pay Solution Architect (Architect) is a strategic role providing technical and 
functional expertise that resides in the BIS – IT & Corporate Department within the IT&T 
organization. The Architect will provide expertise in all processes for the company. In this critical 
role, the incumbent will work with business to create and execute the strategic roadmap for 
Timekeeping and Payroll, while defining and planning technical solutions, optimal balance 
between cost, efficiency, and service delivery with Application Managed Services (AMS) Partner.
The Architect will provide deep skills and experience in deriving the roadmap using SAP, 
SuccessFactors, Qualtrics, Kronos, and its partner products.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accountable for the overall end-to-end SAP functional Human Resources Time and Payroll
solutions design. Ensures that system requirements are translated effectively into solutions
and ensures architectural assurance is performed by overseeing the planning, integration, 
reporting, and standard development for the SAP application architecture. Leads SAP 
Domain architecture governances to provide direction so that the organization can make 
appropriate design decisions (20%)
2. Assumes ownership of all Service Delivery tickets in functional area, partnering with AMS provider to: 
(20%)
a. Ensure application stability, data integrity, and policy alignment.
b. Convey business context and priority to AMS provider, monitor progress, ensure defined SLAs 
are met.
c. Monitor, measure, and improve application service delivery to meet business needs of 
functional area.
d. Ensure that the quality and timeliness of resolution for application issues and operational 
activities are met within service level agreements and within legal business expectation report 
on operational health to business and IT leadership.
3. Leads, coaches, and mentors managed services and/or sap technical teams in 
enhancements or projects to ensure the success of SAP, as needed. (20%)
4. Works with business unit to maintain knowledge of processes/functions relevant to projects and 
application support assignments, as well as maintains appropriate technical skills to troubleshoot 
system(s); uses understanding of system setup, interdependencies of data flow and interfaces to 
conduct root cause analysis and resolve problems. (10%)
5. Establishes regular business partner engagement to understand business environment and needs, 
provide consultation services of the existing applications capability, convey the operational health 
check. Be point of contact for escalations. (10%)
6. Drives impact assessment of any major change requests to requirements providing input to 
the Program Management Team and the appropriate governance/architect review for 
changes in scope and for the overall solution. (10%)
Responsible for creating and/or maintaining architectural artifacts, policies, standards, and 
procedures to manage information systems architecture (data systems, applications, and 
technology) which would include standard development practices, software architecture, system 
architecture, business intelligence architecture. (10%)

 

SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision: Direct supervisory responsibility for assigned SAP Functional 
analysts; may also supervise contract resources. 
Responsible for resource management, staff augmentation, and 
vendor relationships and ensures there is adequate support for all 
assigned applications for both day-to-day operations and on-call 
support.
May serve as a backup to the Manager/Lead.
Indirect Supervision: SAP Configuration, Development, Security, Basis, AMS Vendor, 
Contractors.

 

RELATIONSHIPS
Key Internal: Interacts with all levels of employees and departments throughout the TECO 
Energy companies.
Key External: Responsible for building and maintaining external relationships with vendors, 
contractors, consultants, and other industry specialists.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, 
Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent discipline. 
Preferred: At least one professional certification in specific job-related disciplines preferred in 
addition to the requirements above.

 

Direct Experience 
Required: Minimum of eight (8) years of direct work experience performing the Duties & 
Responsibilities of this position. Minimum of six (6) years of experience in SAP.
Experience in SAP Human Resource Time and Pay , ESS/MSS, and Travel 

 

Management
Preferred: 12 – 15 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities 
of this position. 10 years of experience in SAP. 
Strong demonstrable SAP Experience including full end-to-end project lifecycle in 
Gas or Electric utility implementations or SAP ERP (Finance, Supply Chain, 
HR/Payroll) experience highly desirable.
Certification relevant to experience. 

 

Supervisory Experience
Required: A minimum of three years supervisory or leadership experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: 
• Demonstrated experience in SAP HR/HCM implementation, functional testing, support, 
documentation, and maintenance of Time Management, Benefits, Payroll, ESS/MSS, and 
Travel Management.
• Proficient in delivering Enterprise Scale Solutions in SAP HCM focused on delivering projects. 
• Strong knowledge of Cross Application Time Sheets (CATS), Shift Planning (roster setups) 
and Time Manager’s Workplace.
• Familiarity with interfaces from external time collection systems such as Kronos and Success 
Factors time management.
• Knowledge of integration with different SAP modules like SAP HR Payroll – Finance 
integration and SAP HR-CATS integration
• Should be able to design the architecture of SAP Human Resource business process. 
• Should have experience in migration of legacy or home-grown applications into SAP or 
Partner products
• Demonstrated ability to champion a clear vision for SAP Human Resource Time and Payroll
systems to be implemented and the manner for which they will support business unit 
processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with business partners, IT team members 
and senior management. 
• Expert knowledge of SAP software applications and hardware technologies. Stays current 
with IT industry trends and emerging technologies; leads application of new technologies.
• Expert verbal, written, organizational, analytical and presentation skills. Strong leadership 
and analytical skills. 
• Demonstrated ability leading teams in support of business process analysis efforts and 
educating others in the proper application of tools and techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to independently conduct interviews with management and other 
department leaders and distinguish between business needs and requests.
• Proficient knowledge of defined business processes. Working knowledge of business 
software applications and hardware technologies. 
• Demonstrated experience gathering business requirements, providing conceptual and 
detailed designs to meet business needs, performing necessary SAP configurations, writing 
detail specifications for development of custom programs, testing, co-ordination of 
transports to production and post go live support. Organize client workshops, requirements 
validation and group discussions, understanding of project plans and ability to clearly 
articulate roles, project goals, and timelines. Understanding of the components of running a 
fiscally successful project. Demonstrated proficiency at assessing the proposed project 
plans to ensure all needs are met.
• Drives continuous process improvement for SDLC, maintenance, application support, and 
Information Technology architecture. 
• Provides expert knowledge of work order lifecycle management with Work and Asset 
Management end-to-end solutions
• Provides Plant Maintenance expertise with business and technical processes
• Demonstrates experience with integrations of complex solutions between SAP technologies 
and non-SAP systems
• Experience with MS Office suite of applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio)
Preferred:
• Demonstrated knowledge of SAP Utilities Solutions e.g., SAP ERP, Qualtrics
• Ability to develop and maintain solution architecture documents, establish policies & 
standards to meet the developing needs of the business.
• Ability to understand business requirements and manage conversion into designs, 
configuration & functional specification whilst maintaining integrity of overall application 
design.
• Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate how these can 
positively impact the Company.
• Experience partnering in an AMS model with demonstrated results of timely delivery of 
operational services meeting service level agreements.
• Should be able to design the architecture in SAP HCM and S4 as per business processes. 
• Should have expert knowledge & experience in SAP S4 and integration with 
Finance/SD/MM/ABAP/PI/FIORI.
• Set product priorities and work with scrum teams. Map customer business needs to product 
designs and articulate through epics and stories. Manage the maintenance backlog.
• Develop Proof-of-Concept capabilities with a quick turnaround to meet the needs of 
Business Stakeholders
• Experienced in SAP implementation with “ACTIVATE” and “AGILE” methodology, including 
various phases like Requirement Analysis, Design, Development, Gap Analysis, 
Configuration, Data Uploads (LSMW), E2E Test, UAT, Go-Live and support. Experience with 
integration technologies: SAP PI/PO, Biztalk, SAP ALE/EDI/IDOCs
