Construction Project Manager Progression (PGS)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Includes occasional walk down of pipelines, rights-of-way and related facilities and construction sites; Frequent driving between plant locations; Must have ability to travel by air as needed.

 

POSITION CONCEPT 
Manage Engineering and Construction Projects in the PGS Engineering & Technical Support Department.  Lead project teams as the single point of accountability for all aspects of project execution.  The project manager is also responsible for all phases of planning and executing projects to meet the goals of the company with respect to schedule, financial, and operating performance.  The duties include conflict resolution between the company and the engineering, construction, equipment, and material providers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Education     
Required:  
 Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET/regionally accredited institution in Engineering, Construction, Business or a related field
Preferred:    MBA or graduate degree in Engineering 

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Preferred: 
   Project Management certification, PE

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:  
   Strong understanding of natural gas transmission and distribution systems engineering, design and construction.; Ability to lead and motivate team members; Strong communication and teamwork skills are necessary to be effective 
Preferred:    Working knowledge of work management systems, project management and cost control systems

 

LEVEL:        PROJECT MANAGER I
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Related Experience    
Required:  
 A minimum of 8 years of experience in major construction activities with a focus on engineering, scheduling, budgeting, cost controls and contract claims negotiations; 
Preferred:      Experience managing general construction and/or engineering contracts; Experience with facility improvements and maintenance/upgrades desirable

 

Supervisory Experience 
Preferred: 
   Minimum of three (3) years direct or indirect supervisory experience

 

LEVEL:        PROJECT MANAGER II
In addition to the Project Manager I:
ADDITIONAL PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
6.    Manage exceedingly more complex projects to include maintenance capital, new facilities, plant improvement, process change and/or new process projects with increased cost values  
7.    Identity areas for improvement and work to develop and maintain Project management policies, standards, procedures and tools.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Related Experience    
Required:
    A minimum of 10 years of experience in major construction activities with a focus on engineering, scheduling, budgeting, cost controls and contract claims negotiations; Experience must include a minimum of 2 years of work directly related to the Duties and Responsibilities of this position; 

 

Supervisory Experience 
Required:  
 Minimum of two (2) years of direct or indirect supervisory experience
Preferred:    Minimum of five (5) years of direct or indirect supervisory experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:  
   Working knowledge of work management systems, project management and cost control systems
Preferred:    Knowledge of SAP accounting system; Ability to negotiate change orders and work scope with contractors

LEVEL:        PROJECT MANAGER III
In addition to the Project Manager I and II:
ADDITIONAL PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
8.    Manage exceedingly more complex projects including new receipt points or first of a kind projects with increased cost values. 

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Related Experience     
Required:
    A minimum of 12 years of experience in major construction activities   with a focus on engineering, scheduling, budgeting, cost controls and contract claims negotiations; Experience must include a minimum of 4 years of work directly related to the Duties and Responsibilities of this position.

 

Supervisory Experience 
Required:  
 Minimum of four (4) years direct or indirect supervisory experience
Preferred:    Minimum of seven (7) years direct or indirect supervisory experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:   
 Thorough knowledge of work management systems, project management and cost control systems; Knowledge of SAP accounting system; Ability to negotiate change orders and work scope with contractors
Preferred:    Ability to teach lower level Project Managers
