POSITION CONCEPT:

The position is responsible for managing the completion of plant tax accounting schedules including depreciation and related issues for over $12 billion of gross plant for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas System. The position is responsible for managing the preparation of the Federal and Florida income tax returns for the regulated utilities along with the associated tax research and tax planning.  The position is also responsible for managing the financial and regulatory income tax accounting.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage all fixed asset tax processes for the regulated companies.  This responsibility includes managing the completion of all depreciation related schedules, including regulated tax schedules, book/tax basis differences, associated deferred taxes, forecasts and annual budgets for tax depreciation, and Administration of PowerPlan Tax module/Power Tax software.
  2. Manage special tax projects related to fixed asset tax books, such as repair studies, process improvement initiatives, regulatory and rate case filings, and Investment Tax Credit calculations.
  3. Manage the preparation and review of Tampa Electric Federal and Florida income tax returns, including tax return true ups and ASC 740/FAS 109 schedules and associated tax research.
  4. Manage the preparation and review of Tampa Electric income tax budgets and forecasts including the current and deferred, P&L impact, cash flow from tax payments and balance sheet presentations.
  5. Manage the monthly tax provisions, including regulatory and financial income tax accounting schedules required for financial reporting and SEC purposes.
  6. Coordinate and review company responses to auditors’ data requests and notice of proposed adjustments to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  7. Develop and maintain a professional network in industry organizations such as EEI and Power Plan tax committees to monitor technical trends, participate in benchmarking and industry issue resolutions

 

EDUCATION/LICENSES

Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in Accounting/ and or Finance

PreferredCPA and /or advanced degree in taxation.

 

EXPERIENCE:

RequiredMinimum of 7 years of corporate income tax experience related to the duties & responsibilities of this position is required.

PreferredMinimum of 3 years of regulated utility experience in the electric or natural gas industry is desirable. Experience working in a Corporate Tax department of a Public company or Big 4 Public Accounting Firm.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

RequiredProficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, Tax provision and tax return software. Advanced knowledge of accounting principles (ASC 740/ FAS 109). Advance technical income tax knowledge. Ability to manage projects, prioritize and handle multi tasks. Must be detailed oriented.  

PreferredKnowledge of regulatory and utility tax, including plant tax accounting models. Knowledge of Power Plan Tax module/ PowerTax preferred.  Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Word, Onesource tax return software and RIA research platform.


WORK CONDITIONS:

Ability to work under deadlines. Overtime required during quarterly SEC financial reporting and other deadline driven projects.
