POSITION CONCEPT:

The mission of the Audit Services department is to provide assurance and advisory services designed to evaluate and facilitate improving the effectiveness of risk management, governance, and internal controls at TECO Energy and its subsidiaries, while adding value by demonstrating how to improve effectiveness in business operations.  The Financial Auditor helps achieve this mission through involvement with department engagements and activities, focusing primarily on those with a heavy financial component (risk assessments, substantive sampling, analytical testing, etc.).   The Financial Auditor works closely with other team members, internal clients, and external service providers (auditors, consultants, etc.) to better understand risk and carry out engagements. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Execute assurance and advisory engagements of financial, operational, and technological areas:
    1. Research engagement and process topics
    2. Analyze processes, internal controls, and business systems
    3. Document procedures performed
    4. Identify process improvements and efficiency opportunities
    5. Communicate results and monitor remediation activities
  2. Other miscellaneous activities (community service events, draft financial statement review, etc.)

 Additional Primary Duties and Responsibilities for Senior Level 

  1. Lead assurance and advisory engagements of financial, operational, and technological areas:
    1. Develop scope, objectives, and procedures
    2. Manage engagement budget and schedule
    3. Assign and review work of others, as needed

       4.  Provide guidance and training to other team members

 

EDUCATION:

Required: 

Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting issued by a regionally accredited institution 

 

Preferred:

Master’s degree with a concentration in a technology or business discipline (e.g., MS, MBA, MAcc) issued by a regionally accredited institution

 

Licenses/Certifications:

Required for Senior Position: CIA or CPA

 

Preferred:   Multiple certifications demonstrating a breadth of knowledge over internal audit, business, technology, or project management are preferred (e.g., CIA, CPA, PMP).

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Minimum of ­­­­­­2 years of direct or related work experience is required. 

Related experience consists of: public accounting, internal audit, or financial analysis/processes.

 

Senior level will require a minimum of 4 years direct experience.

 

Preferred: 

Experience in public accounting. 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:          

  • Working knowledge of fundamental accounting and financial transaction principles.
  • Working knowledge of financial auditing concepts, techniques, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and general accepted auditing standards (GAAS).
  • Working knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent investigative, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • The ability to leverage computer-assisted auditing techniques for data analysis. 
  • The ability to work well independently and part of a team.
  • The ability to multi-task and work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • The ability to model procedures, processes, and financial transactions.

 

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) for Senior Level:

  • Working knowledge of IIA standards.
  • The ability to assess complex financial and business risks.
  • The ability to provide direction and delegate work to other team members, if needed.

 

Preferred:         

  • Working knowledge of project management best practices.
  • Working knowledge of utility regulatory accounting requirements (e.g., FERC USoA).
  • Working knowledge of the following systems and technologies:
  • SAP ERP (FI/CO, SC, HCM), BW, BPC, GRC, HANA
  • ACL/Arbutus
  • Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM)
  • Energy Trading and Risk Management Systems (ETRM)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions may include 40+ hour work weeks and occasional (10% - 15%) overnight, out-of-town travel.
