POSITION CONCEPT:

The mission of the Audit Services department is to provide assurance and advisory services designed to evaluate and facilitate improving the effectiveness of risk management, governance, and internal controls at TECO Energy and its subsidiaries, while adding value by demonstrating how to improve effectiveness in business operations.  The Auditor helps achieve this mission through involvement with department engagements and activities, focusing primarily on those with a heavy financial component (risk assessments, substantive sampling, analytical testing, etc.).   

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute Assurance and Advisory engagements and provide governance, risk, and control related professional expertise.
  • Develop risk assessments and audit programs based on assessment of control and risk environment.
  • Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of processes, business systems, and internal controls in support of the organization’s overall strategy.
  • Provide value-added improvement opportunities and recommendations and communicate with management, both verbally and written.
  • Monitor remediation associated with previous audit issues; provide ongoing consultation on remediation approach.

 

Additional responsibilities for Senior:

  • Assign and review work of others, as needed.
  • Provide guidance and training to other team members.

 

EDUCATION, (LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS):

Required: Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting issued by a regionally accredited institution

Preferred: Master’s degree with a concentration in a technology or business discipline (e.g.,   MS, MBA, MAcc) issued by a regionally accredited institution

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required for Staff: Commitment to obtaining an audit/accounting risk certification (e.g., CIA, CPA)

Required for Senior: CIA or CPA

Preferred: Certifications demonstrating a breadth of knowledge over internal audit,    business, or technology (e.g., CPA)

 

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Minimum of two (2) years of internal audit or related work experience. Related experience consists of public accounting or financial analysis/processes.

Senior: Minimum of four (4) years of internal audit or related work experience. Related experience consists of public accounting or financial analysis/processes.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Working knowledge of audit concepts and techniques as well as a broad understanding of enterprise-risk, corporate governance and process and control design.
  • Highly detailed oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and detailed analytical/problem solving
  • Understands testing techniques and able to communicate test results/findings to various stakeholders or lead manager

Preferred

  • The ability to leverage computer-assisted auditing techniques for data analytics, preferably in Arbutus or ACL
  • Knowledge of SAP ERP and CRM
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards, including IIA Standards, COSO, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions may include 40+ hour work weeks and occasional (10% - 15%) overnight, out-of-town travel.
