Responsible for establishing and maintaining PGS’s standards for materials, products, tools and equipment to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective construction and maintenance of PGS’s transmission and distribution systems.  


Provide technical lead to Distribution Engineering, Gas Operations, Pipeline Safety and Operations Support, Safety, Training, Measurement and Regulation and Purchasing in areas of materials, products, tools and equipment design, selection and application and in the development and revision of company standards and job procedures.


Central point of contact for all operational divisions and departments regarding implementation and maintaining these technical standards, plans, and processes; and primary operations liaison with corporate engineering Operational Standards to ensure business needs are met, fully leveraged and implemented.

Performs the functions of an Engineer II, Gas as required.




  1. Research, test, evaluate and recommend for approval options for the most cost effective, safe, and reliable materials, products, tools and equipment to be used in the construction and maintenance of PGS’s transmission and distribution systems.  Prepares specification sheets and standard drawings designating parts and materials acceptable for specific uses (20%)
  2. Provide technical lead to support Pipeline Safety and Operations Support, Safety, Training, Measurement and Regulation and the Standards Committee in the development and revision of company standards and job procedures. Review technical documents proactively to maintain accuracy.  (20%)
  3. Oversee and coordinate activities of the Tools, Instrumentation and Products Committee and maintain the Materials and Tools Catalogs.  Evaluate data in industry publications, suppliers' catalogs, regulatory standards, and other sources of information on materials, products, tools and equipment.  (10%)
  4. Develop recommended revisions and changes needed to company standards and job procedures to the Standards Committee.  Reviews standards prepared with other departmental specialists to assure consistency with existing standards and those in other specialized disciplines. (20%)
  5. Provide Local/Territory operations with engineering specific specifications and recommendations as needed. Travel throughout the Company’s service area to provide support as needed. (10%)
  6. Lead company effort with manufacturers and distributors in analyzing, resolving, and preventing defective materials, tools, and product issues. Direct and monitor the recovery of product warranties, monies, and or material caused by defective materials, tools and products.  (10%)
  7. Performs additional related duties as assigned by Manager, including, developing reports, gathering information and providing feedback and updates to department management on engineering and operations issues, and updates on all related issues. (10%)



Required: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college. 



Required:           Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

Preferred:          Professional Engineer in Florida




Required: Minimum of 4 years of engineering and 2 years of specifications work experience

Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of related work experience in the natural gas industry; Experience in AutoCAD and/or Microstation




RequiredSustained demonstrated sound knowledge in the functional work area with an expected or higher degree of performance; demonstrated knowledge of policies and work procedures within the Company; knowledge of engineering procedures s and the ability to independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment; ability to read and understand plans and alignment sheets; ability to problem solve and to analyze problems logically; good judgment; Strong organizational and project management skills, good written and oral communications skills,

Preferred: Knowledge of Microsoft Project


Overtime work as needed.  Frequent outdoor exposure to construction activity and remote areas during project evaluation and routing. Must be willing to perform in emergency situations

The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted.
