The Asset Management (AM) Engineer is responsible for development and implementation of asset management and reliability functions for Tampa Electric assets.   The AM Engineer’s primary function is to develop, implement and execute processes to inform a known state of plant equipment and facilitate the development of recommendations to lower risk.  The AM Engineer facilitates the development and implementation of standardized best practice thru fleetwide reliability teams.



  1. Apply applicable standards and procedures to develop asset hierarchy for power generation and delivery equipment including the development of Criticality Analysis for failure modes. – 10%.
  2. Develop monitoring plans for the detection and tracking of progression of equipment failure mechanisms – 10%.
  3. Develop calculations to standardize and objectively quantify the health of equipment.  This includes the ability to identify and apply industry standard methods for evaluation of multiple failure mechanisms in equipment or develop novel health indicators and policies – 10%.
  4. Facilitate collaborative evaluation of alternative actions to respond to equipment risk and make recommendations to mitigate unacceptable risk - 15%
  5. Develop and implement Work Planning and Scheduling, and Work Order standards to ensure proactive and planned work -10%.
  6. Implement reliability, AM, and electric industry best practices such as Reliability Teams- Analytics & GADs data, Risk Management and Investment Planning -10%.
  7. Develop and maintain equipment performance models utilizing knowledge of thermodynamics and other engineering principles – 10%.
  8. Develop requirements for supporting AM processes and systems.  Implement, maintain and improve the AM processes, systems, Business Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and other systems supporting AM and ES asset monitoring functions. - 10%
  9. Facilitate Reliability teams for the collaborative development of AM processes. – 15%

Indirect Supervision:      N/A



Key Internal:     Frequent interaction with Planning, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering/Technical and Project Management Staff.

Key External:     Occasional interaction with the OEM and Non-OEM engineering and management, maintenance services and parts suppliers, consultants and industry group participants.

Required:           Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college program.

Preferred:          Degree in Reliability Engineering or related specialization


Required:           N/A      

Preferred:          FE or ability to obtain FE within 1 year of employment.

Related Experience

Required:           Please refer to minimum experience requirements for Associate Engineer per the TEC Engineering Career Path, Administrative Policy 2.13.

Preferred:          Co-Op experience (power generation, piping design and support system). Experience in the electric utility industry.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:           Proficient experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point. Contributes to team effort by collaboration and accomplishments.  Demonstrated teamwork and presentation skills. Demonstrated assignment and schedule adaptability (flexibility).  High ownership, self-motivated and personal accountability.

Preferred:          Knowledge of mechanical equipment (valves, seals, pumps) operation and maintenance.; Reliability engineering and asset management best practices.

Periodic work in operating power plants.  Infrequent dust and gas environment requiring respiratory PPE.  May periodically require flexible working hours – evening or early morning. 



Ability to work in hot environments, lift up to 40 pounds, walk through a powerplant and climb numerous stairs or ladders.
